ABOUT THE RACE The 2018 Golden Globe Race is a race like no other. It is a solo, non-stop, completely unassisted sailing race around the world using only 1960’s technology celebrating the golden age of solo ocean racing. 2018 marks 50 years since the first ever person “save his soul” and continued sailing around of modern safety equipment. THE BOAT The Biscay 36 is the ideal vessel for the race as it is a very sturdy design with excellent speed potential. Currently named Mary Luck, it was designed in 1979 by renowned naval architect Alan Hill as a strong and comfortable ocean cruising boat. The model Gregor will be racing was launched in 1984 and was the 25th launched from a total of around 35.
