Jack Witkop was Massena Central’s valedictorian in the graduating class of 2019 - 2020. He is also a Trinity Alumnus graduating from 6th grade in 2014. Jack now attends the University of Notre Dame where he studies engineering along with arts as well as political science. “ Notre Dame would not have been on his radar if not for Trinity.” Before attending Trinity, he attended St. Christopher’s in Buffalo. The transition from schools was smooth due to the “open arm” feeling he received from classmates and teachers at Trinity. Friendly academic competition from fellow students is what pushed him to achieve his valedictorian status. Jack reflected on how Trinity is a “community of people” as well as a school of academic excellence. Seeing everyone at Monday morning prayers was something he missed as he moved from Trinity to the Junior High. The smaller classrooms allowed him to get to know his classmates. Jack shared his favorite memory from Trinity was 6th Grade Fun Night with all the different activities like the “black light dance party in the library”, and “playing Reverse Hide and Seek through out the entire school” Jack’s teachers for his 6th Grade year were Mrs. Borsellino, Miss Bombard and Mr. Pomainville. Jack stated all three of these teachers made a huge impact on him. He enjoyed the projects Miss Bombard assigned. Mr. Pomainville was a wonderful role model and Mrs. Borsellino was a great teacher. “These people made me feel like I truly belonged. They encouraged my talents and gave me confidence.” When Jack was asked about what he would tell people about Trinity, he responded, “for those struggling about where to educate their children, I would certainly recommend Trinity. For me, it made all the difference.” This year Massena Central High School had two graduation ceremonies due to COVID and Jack was able to speak at both. Those ceremonies were also streamed on Massena Central’s You Tube station. During Jack’s valedictory speech he quotes from the poem “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson. “….We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” He “throughout my high school years, there were many fears that classmates faced. “Did I score well on that test? Will the audition go well or will I clam up? Will our team win this game or this meet? We constantly feared we wouldn’t be enough. If we give our fears to God, we will then see the answers we are seeking.” Jack, your reflections and thoughts make Trinity so proud and we cannot wait to watch your light shine as you share your gifts and talents with the rest of the world. Go Irish!
Anah Bogdan was Massena Central’s salutatorian for the graduating class of 2019-2020 school year. She is also a Trinity Alumna graduating 6th grade in 2014. Anah now attends SUNY Potsdam where she studies math and business. Mrs. Britton and Mr. Pomainville influenced Anah in choosing these fields. She states that Mrs. Britton’s “Wall of Shame” was one. “She would come around to her students desk and someone would have multiplication flash cards and we would race to see if we could beat Mrs. Britton and if we didn’t we would go on her “Wall of Shame”. I still remember, to this day, that I beat her with 7 times 5 is 35.” “Mr. Pomainville (aka Mr. P) would always stop me to ask me random math questions to see how quickly I could answer using mental math.” Math quickly became a favorite of Anah’s. Anah states, “Trinity taught me to be the best person I can be and how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. Trinity influenced me to turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance and support. I do that every single day!” During her time at Trinity, Anah made strong deep-rooted friendships she knows will last. She also learned the importance of community by helping others, donating food and visiting the nursing homes. Anah continues to be involved in community service projects even after leaving school. Anah shared some memories from her time at Trinity. “Mrs. Britton and her numerous fun activities such as trying to dig the Erie canal in the winter, outside, on the playground, with a plastic spoon. Another one is when Mrs. Britton played Queen Christine and we had to follow her rules, pay her taxes using m&m’s, and if we ran out we went to jail. Whenever Mrs. Britton saw Sister Judy she would say “Howdy Doody Sister Judy!, that made us gig- gle. Every year, with every class, Miss Shoen would teach the life cycle of the butterfly and we got to raise butter- flies and watch them grow. Mrs. Chartrand came over the speaker and saying “All bus students, all bus stu- dents” or “all walkers, all walkers”. It still is ingrained in my head today. These things still make me smile as I re- member Trinity as a fun, nurturing home away from home.” Trinity also helped Anah build confidence in public speaking by reading at Masses and prayer services along with classroom presentations. Anah was also able to speak at both graduation ceremonies Massena Central had. In her speech as class salutatorian she said, “whether you are a graduate, family member, or friend here today, the thing item I want you to take away from my speech is no matter what the next step is in our lives, we were meant to be here. The future holds many opportunities but there will be hard times. Together we can work towards the lives we have always dreamed of. Class of 2020, this is our chance to shine. We are all going our separate ways but we will always have the support of those who care about us. No matter where you go next or what you will become, you are important and are needed in this life.” Anah reflected she learned the importance of every left at Trinity. In God’s eyes we’re all precious. Anah, we at Trinity are all so proud of you and your accomplishments. We wish you the best, and to quote you, “ All the teachers were supportive, kind, caring and faith driven. Even today if I needed help they would still help me.” You ‘re right, Anah, we’ll keep our eye on you as you accomplish great things. Let your light shine!
The end of the school year last year was not what anyone expected. Trinity, along with all schools in New York, went to remote learning. Our journey may have been difficult, but our students and teachers rose to the occasion. Trinity’s 6th Graders were able to have a graduation mass. This was different from previous Parker Taraska logging in years, but still special for their some PE time with a bike send off to the Junior high. ride. May crowning was held with just these few students. A video was uploaded to Trinity’s YouTube Chanel. Annabella Hirschey raising her hand during her class via zoom. Ava Thompson’s beautiful Art assignment. Liam Compeau participating in a challenge from Mrs. Students sent in photos of themselves offering Giroux. flowers to the Blessed Mother for May crowning. Mrs. Barnum held band lessons via zoom. A video was uploaded to Trinity’s YouTube Chanel.
