NEW RETAILER CHOMPS AT THE BIT TO PROMOTE LOTTERY It hasn’t even been two months since The Reef Bar in Duluth became a lottery retailer and they have wasted no time getting in the game to promote lottery at their business. Dan Landgren, who has co-owned the small-town college bar for more than 20 years, says lottery was a natural fit for them. “We were looking for another revenue stream and lottery has been a great way to help increase business,” he said. The Reef Bar offers a full-service bar, banquet facility, game room and pull tabs so adding lottery to their lineup was a no-brainer. “We found out pretty quickly that most of our regular pull tab customers are into lottery games as well,” said Landgren. However, Landgren says the most popular lottery game at the bar has been Progressive Print-N-Play Bingo tickets. “With pull tabs there are only three lines to play, but with the Progressive game, it keeps you going so much longer. My customers are even bringing in their own Bingo markers to use to play the tickets,” he explained. Adding, “It’s been really fun to watch.” Lottery sales rep Carole Borndal says Dan has really embraced the Lottery. “We’ve already done some sampling and have a couple promotions in the works for this summer.” Dan has gone above and beyond to help educate his customers that they now sell lottery. He posted a web banner on their website, has a variety of indoor signage, regularly promotes lottery on Facebook and Twitter and recently added a Ms. PAC-MAN® standee next to their vintage PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN arcade games. “Any time you can cross merchandise lottery with another product in your store, is a win-win,” said Borndal. “The sign really stands out and helps call attention to the fun, new scratch game that seems to fit well in this establishment.” Ms. PAC-MAN® & ©BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc Landgren agrees, saying the Ms. PAC-MAN standee “certainly catches peoples’ attention. It’s been a fun ride so far, we’re just going along with it and excited to see where it goes.”
