LOYALTY DAY SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2021 Although we are still not able to gather together in large groups, it cannot change the fact that May 1 is Loyalty Day. On May 1, 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Loyalty Day proclamation, calling on people to recognize the heritage of American freedom and reaffirm our commitment to the principles that make our country great. On this day, we renew this call and our pledge to defend the Constitution and rule of law. Each year this day is designated as Loyalty Day by a Joint Resolution of the U S Congress and the President of the United States. This day is set aside as a special day for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States of America and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. The passage of this particular Act marked a major highlight in a long history of Americanism achievements by the VFW. It was a reaction to the Communists, who used May Day as a venue to display an annual hate demonstration against the USA, but today Loyalty Day is a reminder to encourage loyal Americans to publicly speak out against individuals who advocate the overthrow of our government. It is a positive patriotic reaction by the majority of our citizens to show our love and pride of country and our desire to remain free citizens and be willing to defend our freedom. May 1 is a day when we pledge ourselves to maintain a free society in which loyalty is respected and encouraged. So fly the Flag, say the Pledge to the Flag, line your Post Home sidewalks with Flags. Tell the VFW and Auxiliary story, thank your local police and elected officials for all they do for us. Thank our health care providers, fire departments and average citizens pitching in wherever and however they can. Remember our veterans, active duty military and their families. Decorate your porch, your doorway, windows with bunting and flags and whatever patriotic items you may have. Be creative. Show your red, white and blue heart. Show your American pride publicly.
SOUTHWESTERN VETERANS CENTER General Orders #10 MARCH 2021 Good day Department of Pennsylvania Auxiliary Brothers and Sisters, we as volunteers of Southwestern Veterans Center want to give a big shout out to all the Auxiliaries in the Department of Pennsylvania for stepping up and going above and beyond during these trying times of America. We could not provide for our Hospitalized Veterans if it were not for your donations, whether it be monetary or making hugs, masks, dropping off treats for our hospitalized Veterans. For this we say THANK YOU, we know it is hard not being able to see our hospitalized Veterans smiling faces, one day soon we hope to see those smiling faces again. We stay in touch with Voluntary Services to see what the Veterans need, on behalf of the Department we have purchased 5 electric razors, 3 hair clippers, so that the nursing staff could cut the Veterans hair and give them a nice shave. Please keep making those Hugs, cards, treat bags for our hospitalized Veterans they really appreciate everything they receive. As we continue to keep “Honoring Our Mission to Serve Veterans” as volunteers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, for the “United We Stand” in times of trouble and turmoil. We are Pennsylvania strong! Loyally submitted, Kelley Kelley M. Lepak: Representative Cecelia Cecelia R. Cook: Deputy

AMERICANISM & PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTOR GENERAL ORDERS #10 April 2021 Dear Members of the Department of Pennsylvania VFW Auxiliary: In June, the 2020/2021 term for the Department of Pennsylvania VFW Auxiliary will end, HOWEVER, the reporting deadline was MARCH 31, 2021. All Auxiliary Presidents should have completed and either emailed a copy or sent 2 copies to your District President by April 5, 2021 so they in turn can get their reports to the Department Chairmen by their deadline. The District Presidents have received notice that we will accept either emailed copies or via regular mail, whichever is easier for you, but NOTE the deadline. As sometimes my Auxiliary business email gotauxbonnie@yahoo.com does not always cooperate, PLEASE also cc a copy to kidzarekool@yahoo.com (my regular email) that way I will be sure to get it one way or another. Did you “THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX” for the Pennsylvania VFW Auxiliary? Did each Auxiliary nominate One Auxiliary, One VFW Member and One Youth who showed an outstanding act of Patriotism or showed what being a true American is truly about. Again I want to remind you to check the National and Department VFW and Auxiliary websites: www.vfwaux.org/resources, www.pavfwaux.org, www.vfw.org, and Pennsylvania VFW: www.vfwpahq.org to make sure you have found ways to participate in all of the programs. Just an important reminder in our chaotic lives. Don’t forget to review the National program book and see what not only the Americanism & Patriotic Instructor National Ambassador, Justine Robles has listed to receive credit for participation, but the other program Ambassadors list, of course you should review the year end reports and programs from the Department of Pennsylvania. Remember to fly US Flag: 04/04 Easter Sunday, 04/06 Army Day, 04/09 National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, 04/22 Earth Day, Mother’s Day 05/09, Peace Officers Day (Half-Staff all day) 05/15, Armed Forces Day 05/16, Memorial Day (Half- Staff until Noon) 05/31 “United We Stand” as we continue Honoring Our Mission to Serve Veterans.” “The strongest weapon in the United States is a Patriotic American!” Loyally, Bonnie S. ATTN: MEMBERS OF AUX. 25 YEAR CLUB & PAST DISTRICT PRES.
