Since our founding, TJC has individually represented nearly 15,000 children and adults.
We have worked tirelessly with those clients and other allies to advocate for policy
reforms that benefit low-income Tennesseans statewide. We have enabled our donors’
investment to generate billions of dollars of benefits for millions of Tennessee families in

The TJC Story
Tennessee Justice Center (TJC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working
to secure the basic necessities of life, including health care and nutrition, for
Tennessee’s most vulnerable children and families.
Twenty-five years ago, Congress laid siege to the American ideal of equal justice
under law by severely restricting the activities and funding of Legal Services
programs across the country. Out of response to those restrictions, the Tennessee
Justice Center was born. Community and bar leaders from across the state and
different political persuasions came together to make sure the legal needs of
vulnerable Tennesseans would still be met.

Our Values
Tennesseans share the belief that all our neighbors have value and dignity, and
all deserve the opportunity to thrive. Our laws and public policy should reflect
these shared values.
All Tennesseans, regardless of income, race, disability, age, or illness should
have access to care and services they need to live full, independent lives
and avoid financial ruin.
Those facing hard times or unimagined obstacles should have necessary
tools and support to rebuild their lives.
Our communities, our businesses, and our health care infrastructure are
stronger when everyone has access to basic necessities like affordable
health care, adequate nutrition, and other support they need to be healthy
and thrive.
TJC works with others to foster strong communities that honor the dignity
and potential of every Tennessean.
