FUN & FROLIC Volume: 8 JAN-FEB 2020 From the Desk of Head mistress It gives me immense pleasure to present to you this edition of “Fun & Frolic”, the monthly news letter by the Kindergarten unit of Dewan Public School International. We are at the end of our Academic year 2019-20. We are grateful to Almighty for the blessings which he had showered throughout the year. I am also indebted to you for your cooperation and positive approach. This academic session culminated into a happy and prosperous session. Best wishes for the upcoming session. Sushma Goel

CARNATION Ahaan Yadav Hirdaan Sharma Achievers of the Class PRE-NURSERY Khyat Bansal-She has shown improvement in Montessori activities. Apeksha- She has shown improvement in orals and coding. NURSERY Krishna Agarwal-He has shown improvement in handwriting and takes interest in studies. Vihaan- He has come out of his shy nature and now participates in orals. KG DAISY Abhi Bansal-He discusses work with the teacher and has shown improvement in orals. Vaibhav Dhaliya- He has improved his reading skills. KG CARNATION Kenisha Vij-She has improved her writing skills a lot. Huzaifa Siddhiqui- He has become proactive and participates in orals and activities.
CELEBRATIONS Lohri and makar Sakranti Lohri is the main festival of Punjab but it is celebrated all over Northern India. It is also considered as a harvest festival. It is usually celebrated a day before Makar Sakranti. Men and women wear traditional clothes and dance around the bonfire. Makar Sakranti is also observed as a festival marked to celebrate the transition of sun into the zodiac house of Capricorn. Sun god is worshipped at many places. People take holy bath in river Ganga. Our kids were acquainted to the celebration of these festivals. The teacher explained the importance of each festival and they enjoyed making crafts. Children making craft
REPUBLIC DAY Republic Day is celebrated in India on 26th of January every year. On 26th January, 1950 India was formerly declared Republic. In Republic, the supreme power is held not by a monarch, but by the elected representatives of the people, along with an elected President. So this day is celebrated as the Republic Day. It is also a National festival Flag Hoisting was done on this day by the Principal of the school. It was followed by cultural program & speeches. In the end sweets were distributed to one and all present there. We explained the relevance of this day, a day before to our kids. Republic Day celebration at school
Tastes OF INDIA (FOOD FESTIVAL) This was the main event which was held in DPSI from January 20 to January 24, 2020. Children of classes Pre Nursery to Class V participated in this program with great enthusiasm. In Food Festival four states along with New Delhi were considered for their cuisines. These states were Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Karnataka. Children were made aware about the culture and cuisines of these states by showing PPT. Our presentation gave information about the capital, language, food, dress, dances, monuments, festivals and life style of the people in that particular state. Children danced and sang songs of these states. They enjoyed variety of cuisines in the food fest. Some of them donned themselves with the attire of a particular state. Celebration of Food Festival
Basant Panchmi Basant Panchmi herald the advent of spring. It is a festival of Goddess Saraswati-the Goddess of learning, wisdom and fine arts. Basant Panchmi is a spring festival wherein people wear yellow garments and fly kites. „Yellow‟ is the dominant colour of this festival as it signifies the ripening of fruits and crops. The mustard fields in North India blooms during this season giving a yellow coat to nature. On the other hand „Flying Kites‟ on this day is the main reason for season change. In this season wind blowing starts, which is perfect for flying kites. On January 29, 2020 a day before Basant Panchmi Kids of Kindergarten enjoyed flying kites with the help of their teachers.
Celebration of Basant Panchmi BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Last working day of every month is celebrated in a special way.The children whose birthday falls in that particular month, their birthday is celebrated on that day. They come to school in colourful dresses. They enjoy the birthday party as the birthday cake is cut and served to all. They sing, dance enjoy and share the cake. Birthday Celebration In January
Birthday Celebration In February Jodo Gyan Workshop Jodo Gyan has been running a small experimental learning centre for last fifteen years for children of all the communities. Mathematical concepts are learnt in a special way by the teachers and children. Children develop a mental image of the mathematical operations. Our teachers attended the two day workshop in New Delhi on January 13 and 14, 2020. Now the teachers will be able to explain the Maths concepts using Jodo Gyan tools in a very simple way through stories.
Visit of our Expert: Ms. Neeti Nagarkar DPSI had a pleasure of opening their doors to renowned personality in the field of education Ms. Neeti Nagarkar. She visited the school on January 08, 2020 and interacted with the students of Kindergarten and Primary classes. She is a professional trainer of Jolly Phonics. Learning via Jolly phonics makes reading and writing fun. So much appreciation given to our teachers made us reinforce our faith in ourselves and our motto of the school ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’.
Workshop : ‘learning styles and memory boosting’ DPSI had a pleasure in conducting the workshop for parents by Mr. Nitin Tomar. The session was for two hours. He talked on how to teach children by different learning styles and to choose the one which is appropriate for your child. He explained different teaching techniques to the parents via some activities. Then he talked on certain tips which one can retain in the brain and does not forget during the exam. Overall the session was fruitful.
[UNIT OF INQUIRY] CLASSES: Pre Nursery, Nursery & KG PROJECT: Our Friends Across India Unit of inquiry in the form of project for this month was „Our Friends Across India‟ for classes Pre-Nursery to KG. Everyone living in India loves India, the incredible land. The values, the culture, the traditions, the countless festivals make India unique and vibrant. Indians are varied in their religious beliefs and yet they live in harmony. Art and culture is given importance and is highly respected. We have a country that is such a pleasure to live in. India is an example of unity in diversity. Our children learnt a little more about India, its capital and some of the states like Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Karnatka. The teacher aquainted them about food, dances, languages, special features of some states taken from all directions. Major activity for learning about the states was „Food Festival” celebrated from January 20 to 24, 2020. They coloured the four states and New Delhi in the map of India. Other activities which enhanced the learning were craft, rhymes, videos etc
CLASSES: Pre Nursery, Nursery & KG SUB-PROJECT: REPUBLIC DAY The Sub-project for this month was Republic Day. Our country, India celebrates the Republic Day every year to honour the date when constitution of India came into force. People in India enjoy this great day by celebrating it in their own way. Our children learnt about this day through talks, video and craft. They were introduced to the important personalities of India. On this very day the Indian National Flag was hoisted in the school premises by the school Principal. It was followed by cultural program & speeches. In the end sweets were distributed to one and all present there.
Sensorial Activities
LANGUAGES ENGLISH Pre Nursery: Tiny toddlers conversed in English about self, Our India & Republic Day. They were acquainted with the 42 sounds and letters a-z through games, association with pictures, games, listening, tracing, sorting, pairing etc. The kids are doing well in coding of three letter words. Tracing cards in Montessori helped them in recognition & tracing. It was followed by recap of all activities related to all sounds. Nursery: Conversation in this class revolved around Our India & Republic Day. They learnt how to read & write letters A -Z. They were able to associate capital letters, letter sounds & pictures. They could do coding of sounds to form three letter words. They could read three letter words & draw pictures. Tracing cards, LMA box and videos helped them in coding sounds and pronunciation. It was followed by recap of all activities related to their syllabus. KG: Our kids conversed about Our India & Republic Day. They learnt to read & write word patterns. Comprehension & Creative writing were also introduced as they were able to read & write sentences using is/are, This/That, These/Those. They were able to complete sentences on „My Self‟ and „My Pet‟. They enriched their vocabulary by making words using 42 sounds, rhyming words & picture reading. It was followed by recap of all activities related to their syllabus to prepare them for annual assessment.
HINDI Pre Nursery: The students are able to recite rhymes and speak sentences very well in Hindi. Nursery: They learnt to read & write swars v to v: and vyanjans o] c ]d along with names of some fruits and vegetables in Hindi. They were able to code and read words with two akshars. They were able to speak sentences on a given picture. Recap was done to prepare the kids for tests. KG: Children of this class learnt to read & write words, sentences etc. Now they were able to read sentences, make sentences, make & write words, write varnmala in sequence, recognize pictures and write their names etc. They were able to speak sentences on a given picture. Montessori equipments help them in their learning. Oral work, reading and writing practice was given to them to make them ready for the annual assessment. l
MATHS Pre Nursery: They learnt to speak & recognize numbers 1-10. They were able to associate the quantities with the numbers. The tiny tots were able to keep numbers in sequence. The concept of dimension was reinforced by keeping Red Rods. They learnt all this through games, rhymes, Montessori & other activities. Nursery:The students learnt numbers up to 50. They did various concepts like quantity association, what comes before/after/ between, sequencing of numbers, missing numbers, backward counting and concept of smallest & biggest. The „Ten Board‟ and other activities helped them to understand the concepts. Ample practice was given to prepare them for annual assessment. KG: Children of this class learnt number names from 1-30, skip counting in 5s. Revision was done in concept of bigger & smaller number, forming quantities, subtraction, addition, to put the correct sign of greater than/smaller than /is equal to, odd/even concept etc. The Montessori activities helped them in learning these concepts. The teachers made extreme efforts to make them understand the concepts and to prepare them for annual tests
ART & CRAFT Art and craft activities give kids a sense of achievement and allow them to take pride in their work which builds confidence. Kids get to try with new things and also develop their “self–regulation skills”. Creativity involves processing and innovative thinking skills. Kids of Pre-Nursery, Nursery & K.G. made crafts on Lohri and Republic Day. Children MAKING TRICOLOUR Flag rhythm & Movement Ample opportunities are provided to the students at DPSI to overcome their hesitation or shyness, to face the audience and gain stage confidence. Children acquired the basic understanding of rhythm and music in order to dance with true expression and artistry. “Tiny tots loved to pat their toes on the beat of music.” Children enjoying their Music & Dance class
Digital Learning Use of computers in kindergarten means lots of new skills to learn. As children enter kindergarten and the primary grades, it is important that they have access to computer. The skills of children are enhanced through computer, smart classes & videos. They learnt to type Number names. Children working on computer Games & sports Sports are very important in every walk of life. Taking part in sports is important for children as it reduces stress and enhances their mood. It builds healthy bones and muscles, increases fitness, improves sleep, helps them socialize, improves their cooperation skilla, boosts self–confidence and lowers the risk of getting obese. Students of Dewan Public School International get involved in sports & games activities on regular basis. In February they participated in sports meet.
