From James Clarke, Acting Principal Some good news for NCEA students. These things will be helpful for students anxious about what they can achieve this year • Some subjects have reduced the assessment workload for this year. • Tutor Group Teachers are mentoring students to create realistic and manageable work plans. • Students have re-set their individual goals for the rest of this year which may mean reducing the aim to achieve fewer credits but still for a level pass. • Teachers can use greater flexibility in the requirements for assessment evidence. • Opportunities are being offered for ‘catch-up.’ • For every 5 credits achieved, either internally or externally, 1 more credit is awarded; up to 10 for Level 1 and 8 for Level 2. • Certificate endorsement needs 46 credits at Merit or Excellence, not 50 (not including the additional credits awarded.) • Course endorsement needs 12 credits at Merit or Excellence, not 14; at least 3 in externals and 3 in internals. • U.E. requirements have been adjusted down from 14 to 12 credits in three UE-approved subjects; still to include Level 3 pass and the literacy and numeracy standards. • Portfolio dates and NCEA final exams have been moved later to give more time to prepare. NCEA & UE Covid19 Response GOVERNMENT SCHOOL DONATION SCHEME The College has accessed this scheme since it was introduced. It is now time to decide if we wish to continue that. It provides $150 per student in place of any costs, except non-curriculum overnight camps. About 85% of schools in the country entered the Scheme. The Board of Trustees will soon send out a survey to whanau to ask if we should continue participation in this Scheme. TERM 2 REPORTS Teachers are working on reports for all students to identify what level of achievement each student is at and what work needs to be done in the future. These will be delivered to you by your students on the last day of this Term, Friday 3 July, and be available through the Parent Portal. If you wish to make responses or comments to me, please do so j.clarke@rosehillcollege.school.nz DAYS Term 2 Week 9 8- 12 June Days 6 - 4 Level 1 Announcement Monday Smilecare Dentist Service on site. Recently, Mrs Sue Baker a former Principal’s P.A. at Rosehill College, brought into the College this piece of artwork by Barry Dabb, a former Art Teacher here. She has no room for it in her new residence. The piece is dated 1979 and is of the Fisherman’s Needle in Whangaparaoa. Barry Dabb still works as an artist in New Zealand. We are excited to be able to have our staff and students back on site. We will create manageable opportunities for students to achieve their goals. We will communicate updates and changes in an on-going and constant way. We will regularly check on students’ wellbeing and work progress. We will praise and reward those who take up all opportunities and show innovation and initiative. James Clarke, Acting Principal Term 2 5 June 2020 Issue No. 17 www.rosehillcollege.school.nz
