Our school works very hard to be inclusive and encourage all students to achieve their individual personal best. Knowing they have a strong sense of belonging in our school community is a priority for us all. I would like to thank Mrs Bowden for the work she has done to organise this event. Aboriginal Education Community afternoon – Thank you to all families and friends who attended our first afternoon for 2021, given the atrocious weather conditions it was amazing to see so many people. I know the students and staff were very proud to showcase what has been happening as well as what will be happening throughout the year. Thank you to Ms Train and all staff involved in the organisation of the afternoon. Circus Workshop – Next Tuesday all students are invited free of charge to attend a circus workshop. This will be a unique and engaging experience for all of our students. It is also a way for us to celebrate our improved student attendance at KVPS. ATTENDANCE AT KILLARNEY VALE SCHOOL HEALTH AND SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S REPONSIBILITY Keeping Everyone Safe at our School As part of our ongoing work to create a safe school site we are vigilant in following up issues that may be identified as hazards to the health and safety of children, staff and visitors. While all due care is taken there are circumstances that arise on a daily basis that may present as a hazard such as children digging in the ground in the playground or children building ‘roads’ in the soil to drive their toy cars. If you are coming on to school grounds and become aware of a potential hazard please let the ladies in the office know. Please also be aware that the grounds of the school are not all even, particularly on the ovals, and when visiting the site you may wish to consider the type of footwear you are wearing to minimise the possibility of an injury. ROAD SAFETY AT KILLARNEY VALE PUBLIC SCHOOL Passenger Safety Message Buckle up every time you travel in a car.

Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Harmony Day is about celebrating differences and embracing new cultures. The message for harmony day is 'everybody belongs'. Harmony Day is a time when school communities can unite and promote inclusion. We can lead our communities in the appreciation of difference by celebrating and sharing our cultural heritage, practices, beliefs, identities and languages. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Students are welcome to wear clothes representing their culture or orange mufti next Friday, 26th March. Gilbert – Colin Thompson and Chris Mould Well known children’s author, Colin Thompson and his contributor Chris Mould bring us a delightful tale about Gilbert, a cat who is just about scared of everything! The story is told through bright and vibrant illustrations, with a touch of humour to really bring out this scaredy-cat’s tale! Our story opens with the introduction of our main character, Gilbert, who was taken from his mother at a very early age. After spending most of his kitten life hiding inside a paper bag from all the outside noises, Gilbert has come to treasure this safe and special spot and will often try to curl up in there just to avoid going outside or being in the house when Mum has the vacuum turned on! However, as Gilbert begins to grow he realises that the paper bag does not fit anymore, and as the years went on, he could only get his head inside the bag! Although everything scares him, Gilbert particularly loves snuggly under his mother’s bed with his paper bag to help him get to sleep. One night while dozy off, Gilbert is awoken by a small and hairy friend, who immediately sees Gilbert and stops in his tracks! Will this scaredy cat overcome his nervous feeling?
Healthy Harold is arriving Term 2! Wednesday 28th April - Wednesday 5th May 2021 (Cost $5.00 per student) (Thank you to our wonderful P&C who have subsidised $7.00 for each child to attend Healthy Harold this year) Life Education provides a unique learning experience for children instilling in them the skills needed to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. Life Education’s primary school curriculum based modules focus on issues around food and nu- trition, personal safety, physical activity, cyber safety, safety with medicine and legal drugs; to- bacco, alcohol and caffeine. By taking a comprehensive approach to drug and health education our modules help children to develop relationship skills, positive communication (both face to face and online), problem solving and decision making skills. We provide students the opportunity to develop strategies, and practice the skills required to avoid the harms associated with an unhealthy lifestyle. Each module presents an issue or issues with memorable and engaging activities. Our specially trained educators ensure that all messages are age-appropriate, relevant and enhance and support the messages taught in Australian schools.
