The manipulative test standard will be task completion on all skills and evolutions, according to the standards established by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Sierra College Regional Fire Academy. My attendance is required at all sessions, unless excused by the Fire Academy Director. I understand that some classes are mandatory, and if I miss any of them, there is no make-up. Problems in any of these areas could result in my being administratively dropped from enrollment. Fire Academy Standards And Sierra College Learning Assistant Program Information Academy Standards Our Fire Academy program is both academically and physically challenging. The standards for passing scores are high (80% on written tests and 100% on manipulative tests) and we adhere strictly to those standards. If your study habits and testing skills are not excellent, (college level), you will likely have difficulty achieving and maintaining passing scores throughout the Academy, which would result in your dismissal from the program. If you believe that you have a learning disability that might inhibit your chances for success in the Fire Academy, it is STRONGLY ADVISED that you take advantage of the program below. Learning Assistance Program The Fire Academy strongly supports the use of the college’s Sierra College Learning Center for all Academy students who are eligible for that service. Our goal is to provide Sierra College students with the academic support they need in order to achieve success. This includes students who received Resource assistance in high school or any student who has an identified problem that effects reading, writing or test taking. Some of the college’s most successful students use this service. BUT, it is very important that students who may need this service contact Learning Center before the Fire Academy program begins. The pace of our program is extremely fast and if support services are not in place right from the beginning the chances of success are much lower. We expect students who can benefit from this service, to contact the Learning Assistance office well before the Fire Academy program begins to arrange for support at (916) 660-7220 M-Th: 7:30am - 6:00pm. Learning Center records are completely confidential and free. You can see a tutor as many times as you need to during the semester. To find the drop-in schedule, go to: http://www.sierracollege.edu/student-services/academic-support/tutoring/index.php and select the link for the Fall 2019 schedule. You will need to bring your student I.D. with you when you drop in. I have read, and I understand, the Sierra College Fire Academy Standards and the Learning Assistance Program information.
