Sunday 21 March 2021 @ PPT Bovey Tracey Fifth Sunday of Lent (Passion Sunday) Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace Where there is hatred let me bring Your love Where there's injury grant mercy O Lord Where there's doubt true faith in You Where there's despair let me bring Your hope Where there's darkness let me bring Your light Where there's sadness ever joy O Divine Master grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console To be understood as to understand To be loved as to love with all my soul It's in forgiving that we are forgiven In giving of ourselves that we receive And in dying that we're born to eternal life CCLI Song # 6399315 Ed Bolduc | John Angotti | Thomas W. Jefferson © 2009 World Library Publications (Admin. by G.I.A. Publications, Inc.) CCLI Licence No. 309195 Deuteronomy 30.11-end 11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it. 15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 17 But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, 18 I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, 20 loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that 1 of 7
the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Psalm 1: 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Luke 6.37-49 37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” 39 He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. 43 “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” 2 of 7
Come and see come and see Come and see the King of love See the purple robe and crown of thorns He wears Soldiers mock rulers sneer As He lifts the cruel cross Lone and friendless now He climbs towards the hill We worship at your feet Where wrath and mercy meet And a guilty world is washed by love's pure stream For us He was made sin Oh help me take it in Deep wounds of love cry out 'Father forgive ' I worship, I worship the Lamb who was slain Come and weep come and mourn For your sin that pierced Him there So much deeper than the wounds of thorn and nail All our pride all our greed All our fallenness and shame And the Lord has laid the punishment on Him Man of heaven born to earth To restore us to Your heaven Here we bow in awe beneath Your searching eyes From Your tears comes our joy From Your death our life shall spring By Your resurrection power we shall rise CCLI Song # 192405 Graham Kendrick © 1989 Make Way Music CCLI Licence No. 309195 Discussion Questions: Icebreaker: can you think of a time recently when you have had to use your discernment to judge a situation or person? Why does Jesus tell us not to judge? How can we tell good from evil, good fruit from bad, or specks from logs? How do we discern good leaders who won’t lead us into a pit? v.40 What does it mean to dig deep foundations in following Jesus as Lord? 3 of 7
