PRAYERS
May 24, 2020— The Ascension of the Lord
Prayer of the Faithful
Sent out into the world by Jesus Christ, let us pray now for the needs of all the people in the world.
For Pope Francis and all our Church leaders whose example leads us to throw open the doors of the Church to
all people, let us pray to the Lord.
For an end to violence in the world and on our streets and in our homes, as we continue to learn that violent ac-
tions only lead to more violence, let us pray to the Lord.
For doctors and scientists, may their work to protect us and heal us during this pandemic be heeded and
blessed, let us pray to the Lord.
For those who work in ministries of reconciliation and healing as they bring wholeness to those who experience
alienation, anger, and loneliness, let us pray to the Lord.
For all who graduate this unusual spring as they celebrate their accomplishments and prepare for a new phase
of work, service, or scholarship in
their lives, let us pray to the Lord.
For all those who are sick, for all
who suffer from COVID-19, and for
all who have died, let us pray to the
Lord.
For all the prayers that we hold in
the silence of our hearts; for all our The Ascencion
intentions spoken and unspoken, let
us pray to the Lord.
O God of all,
your risen Son commissioned us to go out
to the world in his name.
Hear these our humble prayers which we
make on behalf of this world,
and grant them through him, who is our Lord
for ever and ever.

“PUSHED” OUT ON MISSION
There is a delightful character in
the original Dr. Dolittle Tales
called the “Pushmi-Pullyu.” It is a
beast with two identical halves,
with a head at each end. No mat-
ter which direction the beast
walks, one end is the “push me”
and the other is the “pull you.”
Today’s feast is a bit like that in
the life of the church. In the book
of the Acts of the Apostles, it is
the ascension of Christ that calls
for the Holy Spirit, which conse-
quently sends or “pushes” the
church out on its mission. This is
the message that we hear from
the angels today as they tell the
friends of Jesus not to look up
into the clouds, but to get busy. It
is the message of Jesus himself
in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends
them out to baptize. He also tells
them, “I am with you always, until
the end of the age” (Matthew
28:20). And it is this message,
confident in faith that Jesus has
ascended to shouts of joy, that
“pulls” us along to our final desti-
ny. The life of the faithful disciple,
sent into the world on mission, will
one day know the same risen,

Mt 28,16-20
RỒI NGÀI SẼ TRỞ LẠI
“Anh em hãy đi và làm cho muôn dân
trở thành môn đệ, làm phép rửa cho
họ nhân danh Chúa Cha, Chúa Con
và Chúa Thánh Thần, dạy bảo họ
tuân giữ mọi điều Thầy đã truyền cho
anh em. Và đây Thầy ở cùng anh em
mọi ngày cho đến tận thế.” (Mt 28,19
-20)
* Suy niệm: Dân Do Thái ngày xưa
không đi theo con đường thẳng từ Ai
Cập để vào đất Ca-na-an, nhưng phải
vòng quanh sa mạc vượt sông Gio-đan mới vào được Đất Hứa. Các môn đệ cũng muốn “theo đường chim
bay” để “bay thẳng” lên thiên đàng, nhưng Chúa không muốn thế. Chúa lên trời để định hướng lại cái nhìn của
các môn đệ. Sứ mạng của Đức Ki-tô đã hoàn tất trên thập giá nhưng sứ mạng của các ông thì chưa. Các ông
phải quay trở lại Ga-li-lê, điểm hẹn của Chúa, để tiếp tục sứ mạng của mình tại chính điểm mà Đức Giê-su đã
bắt đầu và thực hiện mệnh lệnh tối hậu của Ngài: loan báo Tin Mừng cho mọi dân tộc.
* Mời Bạn: Mừng mầu nhiệm Chúa về trời, bạn bước vào một mùa vọng mới, mùa mong đợi Đức Ki-tô lại
đến. Chúng ta, “những người Ga-li-lê” ngày nay không được phép cứ đứng nhìn trời mà không làm gì cả,
nhưng hãy quay trở lại công trường của mình là cuộc sống trần thế này, sắn tay áo xây dựng nó xứng tầm với
“thành đô Giê-ru-sa-lem mới” trong ngày Đức Ki-tô lại đến.
* Chia sẻ: Phác thảo một số việc cụ thể bạn có thể làm để đưa mệnh lệnh của Chúa trước khi về trời áp dụng
vào cuộc sống của bạn ngày hôm nay.
* Sống Lời Chúa: Bạn làm thật tốt bổn phận của bạn ngày hôm nay để cầu nguyện cho việc rao giảng Tin
Mừng.
* Cầu nguyện: Lạy Chúa, xin làm cho chúng con trở thành tông đồ, để con loan báo Tin Mừng Chúa cho

Bài kết Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu Kitô theo Thánh Marcô.
Khi ấy, Chúa Giêsu hiện ra với mười một môn đệ và phán: "Các con hãy đi khắp thế gian, rao giảng Tin
mừng cho mọi tạo vật. Ai tin và chịu phép rửa, thì sẽ được cứu độ; ai không tin, sẽ bị luận phạt. Và đây là
những phép lạ đi theo những người đã tin: nhân danh Thầy, họ sẽ trừ quỷ, nói các thứ tiếng mới lạ, cầm rắn
trong tay, và nếu uống phải chất độc, thì cũng không bị hại; họ đặt tay trên những người bệnh, và bệnh nhân
sẽ được lành mạnh".
Vậy sau khi nói với các môn đệ, Chúa Giêsu lên trời, và ngự bên hữu Thiên Chúa. Phần các ông, các ông đi
rao giảng khắp mọi nơi, có Chúa cùng hoạt động với các ông, và củng cố lời rao giảng bằng những phép lạ
kèm theo.
Đó là lời Chúa.
