Haskins Haskins Community Community Church Church NewsNews April August January 2021 20192021 It is wonderful to have so many people giving of their time, talents and treasures at HCC! Even in these still-uncertain times, we are so blessed to have a caring, committed, and active group of church friends and members who are work- ing to make this church, this community, and this world a better place! Many thanks to Jill Green for leading our new Church Cookbook project, with help from Mary Pat Browne and Laura Genson! These cookbooks represent just one way that we can all work together to create something helpful and one of a kind! With this in mind, I thought I would share a lovely "recipe" that I found in a very old church cookbook on my kitchen shelf. Enjoy! Recipe for a Happy Home Credit to Rev. Robert G. Seully To 3 cups of Love and 2 cups of Understanding Add 4 teaspoons of Courtesy and 2 teaspoons each of Thoughtfulness and Helpfulness. Sift together thoroughly, then stir an equal amount of Work and Play. Add 3 teaspoons of responsibility. Season to taste with Study and Culture. Then fold in a generous amount of Worship. Place in a pan well greased with Security, And lined with Respect for Personality. Sprinkle lightly with a Sense of Humor. Continued on next page————>>>>

Worship Schedule August 2021 August 1 Worship: Communion/10th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Exodus 16:2-4; 9-15; Ephesians 4:1-16; John 6:24-35 Sermon: “Ripples in a Pond” What we do matters – to ourselves personally, to our community, to the world, to God. The way we respond to the circumstances that we find ourselves in will influence everything around us, like ripples in a pond. August 8 Worship: 11th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: 1 Kings 19:4-8; Psalm 34:1-8; Ephesians 4:25-5:2; John 6:35, 41-51 Sermon: “How Can I Help You?” The people of the early church were beginning to under- stand that they were bound together in unity. The question was, how would they treat one another? Living and loving like Jesus is hard, and many of us struggle to live in ways that are worthy of God’s call. This week’s readings show that faithful living is compli- cated because we live in a broken world. How do we live in com- munity?
Worship Schedule August 2021 August 15 Worship: 12th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Proverbs 9:1-6; Psalm 34:9-14; Ephesians 5:15-20; John 6:51-58 Sermon: “Use Your Time Well” Seeking wisdom can be like stepping out into an unknown city and being faced with streets and alleyways that lead to who knows where – the city center or a dead end. We have the scriptures and teachers to help us navigate our faith, as we contemplate how it is that we use the time that we have been given. August 22 Worship: 13th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Joshua 24:1-2a; Psalm 34:15-22; Ephesians 6:10-20; John 6:56-69 Sermon: “Hurry Up!” Our modern lives are so full of appointments, commitments, and distractions that we are always on the move. Society tells us to “hurry up, accomplish more, and don’t be satisfied until we have it all.” More often than not, the success of our day is judged by how many items we can check off our “to do” list. God is calling us to a more restful, peaceful life.
Worship Schedule August 2021 August 20 Worship: 14th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Deuteronomy 4:1-2; 6-9; Psalm 15; James 1:17-27; Mark 7:1-8; 14-15; 21-23 Sermon: “Live Love” What do we believe about God, and how do we act on it? The readings for this week challenge us to find connections between what we believe and say about God and the actions we take each day. Thank you for your continued financial support! Tithes and contributions can be made by mailing checks to HCC at P.O. Box 287, Haskins, OH 43525; left in the outside mailbox at the top of the office steps (collected from the mail- box Tuesdays and Thursdays); or given electronically via on-line giving at: www. haskinscommunitychurch.org. Thank you!

I would like to thank everyone who wished me a Happy 80th birthday either on Facebook or by sending me a lovely card. I was overwhelmed and appreciate it so much. I also want to thank my wonderful children for having the beautiful party for me, it was a great day. Thanks again everyone. Margie Lang Thank for your beautiful anniversary card. 73 years. Yes, we are really blessed, in so many ways. We don't do much on the computer anymore, but we do our own driving around, no problem. We have slowed up and have our discomforts, but that is life. We both have been having some Doctor visits. So glad to see everything getting back to the old ways at church. We love everyone. God bless. Dale and Mae Vollmar
