RESIDENT COUNCIL SAMARITAN PROGRAM MEETINGS In additional to making gifts to the Samaritan Program that have an immediate impact, there are many ways to support our benevolent care needs into the future. You might consider the following planned giving opportunities: ·Making a bequest in your will ·Naming Pinnacle Living to receive assets remaining in a trust ·Making beneficiary designations in life insurance policies/savings accounts/brokerage accounts ·Designating Pinnacle Living to receive the remaining assets in retirement plans ·Asking your heirs to give a gift in your memory For decades, Pinnacle Living has benefited from the generosity of people who remembered this important organization in their estate planning. Such support is extremely important to us and is greatly appreciated. Your first step would be to consult with your professional advisors about making a planned gift to the Samaritan Program. Pinnacle Living team members will work with your legal, accounting, tax or other advisors once you have consulted with them in your planning. 1009 Old Country Club Rd. CHAPLAIN'S CORNER Some years ago, after my mom, Marilyn, died after a long season with Alzheimer’s, I found myself longing to visit the place where she grew up, rural central Kansas, near the town of Lyons, where her father farmed, where her early life was shaped, and where I had the opportunity to serve as a pastor to two churches early in my pastoral ministry. On a cold, clear night in January, I got in my car and drove through the dark to a field that was once farmed by her father. I pulled off the sandy, gravel road into the front edge of the field, parked, turned off the car and stepped out onto the frozen ground. As my eyes adjusted to the night, I shifted my eyes upward into the sky to behold the glory of the stars and their brilliant light. To fully grasp the experience, I laid down on the ground, feeling the furrows of the plowed field beneath my back. I thought, what on earth has led me to this moment, in the middle of winter, at midnight? Perhaps it was my mom’s spirit, and her now eternal presence in heaven, that invited me to lay down into the earth to grasp the arc of heavenly love, connecting me more fully with my mom, her family, our ancestors, and the land that nurtured her and continues to nurture me. Winter, with its often bitter cold seems like a season of distance, even distress. Yet, its beauty in the barrenness and fallowness of the trees and the land reminds us that even when we can’t see it, growth is always at work, often burrowing and burgeoning beneath us and within us, reminding us as the phrase in the Hymn of Promise… In the cold and snow of winter, there’s a spring that waits to be Unrevealed until its season something God alone can see. May this winter season bring forth gifts as yet unseen. Peace, Rev. Joe Cobb, Chaplain 1009 Old Country Club Rd. Roanoke, VA 24017 540-767-6800 *Fax 540-767-6830
