QCC Plans in relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic Clearly the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has sparked an emergency across our community & the World. A situ- ation that has developed and changes weekly. There can be no denying the exponential growth in this virus’s spread, so as you are no doubt aware, there are a number of government restrictions and health recommendations which are already in place, and new ones being introduced at times, we seem to have respectable control of the Virus in Queensland, but this still will affect the way the Queensland Corvette Club Inc. can operate in the future. The Management Committee conveys to all QCC Members that they must comply with all the up to date Government Regulations/Restrictions & respect your other Members & their Family on all Events/Runs going into the future. QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 PRESIDENTS REPORT FEBRUARY 2021 Hi everyone hope you are all well and have managed to get through the first month of the new year. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the Australia Day Run, but I have heard that everyone had a good time. Don’t forget next Sunday 7th of February we have the Gold Coast Motor Museum Lunch Run, so please contact Mona as numbers are required prior to attending. There will be a QR Code to be scanned as you drive into the parking area, this must be shown to us before you are allowed to enter the premises. Also, when pay- ing the $10 for entry you will be given a wrist band for entry to the museum. Saturday night the 20th of February we will have a dinner run to Ashmore Road Seafood & Steak Res- taurant. It is with much regret Corvettes of Canberra have had to postpone the National Convention and have rescheduled to Easter 2022, those who have paid can either get a refund or leave it with them for the following year. Hopefully, the year 2022 will be the year we can catch up with all our southern friends. I would like to ask all members to help with ideas and set up new runs/events, also if anyone has any articles of interest that we can use in future Vetteletter’s, this would be much appreciated. Please enjoy your Vetteletter. QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 Electric 'Vette: Chevrolet Corvette to abandon V8 engine One of America's most iconic V8-powered sports cars is going electric. Written By: Ben Zachariah / Journalist Car Advice The Chevrolet Corvette will be fully electric by 2035, dropping the petrol V8 engine which has powered the sports car since 1955. The revelation comes as parent company General Motors announced overnight its entire passenger car fleet would be battery-powered by the mid-2030s. While GM's all-electric push will exclude 'medium-' and 'heavy-duty' models within the Chevrolet and GMC pick-up range, it's understood the announcement includes future generations of the Corvette sports car. The news comes just days after Ford attempted to downplay rumours of its Mustang moving to an electric power- train by the end of this decade. Earlier this month, company insiders revealed a Corvette sub-brand was currently in development by the American car giant and will launch a number of sporty SUV models wearing the iconic 'Crossed Flags' badge. "What I can tell you is that 'Corvette' is an extremely strong sub-brand, capable of being carefully expanded," for- mer GM executive Bob Lutz told CarAdvice at the time. While Mr Lutz's comments related to the development of an electric SUV, it's clear General Motors shares a similar level of faith in the Corvette name. Only two years ago, General Motors CEO Mary Barra revealed the company was exploring all options. "We look at a variety of things as we go forward and we recognize the strength of the Corvette brand," Ms Barra told an analyst during an earning call in November 2019. "Today we announced our plans to become carbon neutral by 2040, in our products and operations, globally," Bar- ra said in a statement posted to LinkedIn overnight. "As one of the world’s largest automakers, we hope to set an example of responsible leadership in a world that is faced with climate change." QCC VETTELETTER— DECEMBER 2020 Page 8

QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 Australia Day Club Run — 26 January January is NOT a popular month for car shows because it is so hot, so why would you go to one? The Bayside Restorers Club have been holding their car show at Ormiston State School for many years, every Australia Day. Well, this car show ticks all the boxes : Starts at 7.00am and finishes at 10.00am; NO entry fee; FREE sausage sizzle with Bacon and tea or coffee; and plenty of trees for shade and plenty of seating amongst the school buildings. Every year at least 500 classic and vintage cars show up. This year, due to the lack of shows (COVID-19), 720 cars showed up. The QCC had 10 Corvettes in a group plus six other Corvettes parked elsewhere who were not members. Let’s see some NEW members for next year’s show. Most of us then went back to Mona’s place for lunch—thank you Mona for the “buffet” lunch—and cooled off in the Pool. Mike Gocs QCC VETTELETTER— DECEMBER 2020 Page 11
