Meet Our Memory Cafe Facilit at ors!
This month, we'd like to introduce Pat Lund-Moe. Pat has been a Memory Cafe
facilitator at Mosquito Hill Nature Center for the last five years. Fox Valley Memory
Project is fortunate to partner with Friends of Mosquito Hill and with the nature center
as host for this beautiful and unique setting for a Memory Cafe. When asked, Pat
stated her favorite thing about the work she does to design and facilitate the cafe
she responded, "I really enjoy meeting our participants and getting to know them. We
all look forward to the monthly gathering and love the fact that we can provide a
place for a Memory Cafe. I am so glad the cafes were started and continue to offer a
space for our participants to enjoy time together with others who are traveling the
same path."
Pat shares her passions with cafe participants. She enjoys nature, traveling, and time
with family and friends. Pat and her volunteers, Becky, Cathy, Jenny, and Amy, always
have creative activities at The Cafe on the Hill ! Visit Pat and her team for the Memory
Cafe at Mosquito Hill on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 1:30pm.
Rehearsal Begins!
On a Positive Note chorus rehearsals are beg i nni ng Tuesday, February 5 at
3: 00pm . The chorus will meet at Thompson Community Center on Lourdes. Rehearsals
will meet weekly (Tuesdays at 3:00pm) at TCoL through February and March with
Spring performances starting mid-March. More information to come at rehearsal.

A lzheimer's Communit y Forum
Learn about Alzheimer's, dementia, and memory loss at this community forum hosted
at Kaukauna High School Auditorium. Bring a friend who has been affected by
memory loss and all are welcome to share thoughts about how to help our
community. Light refreshments will be provided.

Memory Cafés
Memory Cafés welcome those experiencing early stage dementia, mild memory loss
or cognitive impairment, as well as family and friends of those affected. They are a
great opportunity for lively discussion, information gathering, refreshments,
camaraderie and creative fun!

February Memory Cafes March Memory Cafes
Mindw orks t o Begin February 5
Mindworks is a program for those with early symptoms of memory loss. The program
promotes brain health and well-being so those with dementia can live well.
Components emphasize social connections, community engagement, physical
recreation, nutrition, and cognitive activities.
United Way Fox Cities is generously supporting this program with partner agency grant
funds. This program would not be possible without the support of United Way Fox
Cities.

T LC Dement ia Caregiv er Support Group
Join us in a supportive and safe environment to share, interact, listen, and learn with
other caregivers and care partners of those with a memory loss disability. This support
group is specific to dementia caregivers. Come build community with others around
you.
Session w ill begin M onday, Febr uar y 4 and continues on the 1st and 3rd
Mondays of the month through June. Registration is required.
Sessions will run 1:00-2:15pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton (312 S State

Regist er for Memory Camp at Moon Beach!
It's not too soon to start thinking about summer! How would you like to spend three
nights and two full days having a camp experience in the north woods that is
designed for people living with dementia and their families?
Come to Memory Camp at Moon Beach Camp in beautiful St. Germain, WI. Find out

The Memory Loss Resource Center provides information to those experiencing a
dementia, their care partners, family and friends. Call 920 225-1711 to ask questions or
schedule an appointment to obtain information and community resources.
Memory A ssessment Cent er
Memory Assessments are provided at Mosaic Family Health (229 S Morrison Street,
Appleton). Initial assessments screen for memory impairment and assess overall health.
If necessary, a more comprehensive memory evaluation can be provided in order to
further diagnose a dementia or memory loss disability.

SPA RK!
SPARK! is a program for caregivers and loved ones living with memory loss. The
Building for Kids Children's Museum and The Trout Museum of Art (with a second
program at St Paul Elder Service) are pleased to be among the Wisconsin museums
awarded funding by Bader Philanthropies and the Community Foundation to create
programming where participants engage in lively discussions, art making, and multi-
sensory activities.
Each one-hour program is led by a specially trained museum educator who will
engage participants in interactive exhibit experiences. After each program, coffee
and conversation is led by volunteers who give participants and caregivers the
opportunity to support and socialize.

REA CH I n-Home Caregiv er Support
REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health) is a 6-month evidence-
based in-home caregiver intervention program. REACH supports the caregiver by
addressing issues such as emotional well-being, stress management, troubling
behaviors, problem solving and self-care.

Learn by Doing: T ake A Virt ual Dement ia T our
BrightStar Care of Appleton/Fox Cities offers a unique and moving experience known
as a Virtual Dementia Tour. Three afternoon sessions take place the 3rd Monday of
each month at BrightStar Care located at 35 Park Place, Appleton.
February sessions include:
Mo nday, February 18: 3:00-4:00pm, 4:00-5:00pm, or 5:00-6:00pm.

Fox Valley Memory Project strives to reduce social isolation in a stigma-free
environment for care partners and their loved ones with memory loss. We help to
facilitate opportunities to socialize.
The next social meetup has been set for Wednesday, February 20 at 4:30 PM in the
private meeting room at Pizza Ranch (N139 Eisenhower Drive, Appleton). Come meet
up with your Memory Project friends for a meal together and great conversation.
Online Resources from DHS
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, in conjunction with Dementia-Capable
Wisconsin, has made an online guide available to those who care for a person with a
dementia. This guide may answer some questions and provide helpful suggestions on
how to respond to some common symptoms of memory loss. Click here for the flyer

Valley VNA Senior Care Offers Lyrics & Laught er ™
Research shows that music, especially with active participation, demonstrates
physiological, emotional and social benefits to those with memory loss. Active
participation stimulates the brain and also has some physical benefits. Music is a road
to memories and helps those with dementia to engage and socialize in ways they
normally cannot do.
The next series of "Lyrics & Laughter™" beg i ns Thursday, March 8 and runs every
Thursday until April 12. You can choose between a morning session beginning at
9:30am or an afternoon session beginning at 1:00pm.

Memory Care Respit e Part ners
A monthly respite program is held on the 1st & 2nd Mo nday o f each m o nt h at St.
Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah (200 N Commercial Street, Neenah). This free
program is staffed by professional caregivers and trained volunteers. Activities include
music, organized arts, crafts and refreshments.

The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Wisconsin offers free family and consumer

Caregiv er Support
Mosaic Family Health at 229 S Morrison St in downtown Appleton has started a new
family caregiver support group. The new group is offered the 3rd W ednesday o f
each m o nt h . Free parking is in the Mosaic clinic front parking lot. Share your journey
