Special Events 2nd Annual SCARECROW CONTEST Create your own scarecrow and display it on Fairfield Hills lamp posts as part of our 2nd Annual Scarecrow Contest (location: Fairfield Hills Lamp Posts). Individuals, families, businesses, sports teams and organizations are invited to participate. Adopt a Fairfield Hills lamp post of your choice during the month of October, first-come, first-served. $25.00 adoption fee. Build your own unique scarecrow and affix it to your adopted lamp post (come in to pick up your assigned post).You can work on your scarecrow from October 4-25. The community is invited to vote on their favorite scarecrow during the week of October 26 to 29. The winner will be announced on October 30.Winners have a chance to win a family pool/beach pass membership for Summer 2022 or assorted tier prizes donated by local businesses. Aquatics MASTERS TRI SWIMMING WITH TOM HORAN (Adults) Masters Swimming is designed for anyone ages 18+, who would like to start or continue swimming as a form of fitness or training. This course will be open to all levels and practice groups will be based on skill. Stroke instruction and refinement will also be addressed. Even if it’s been years, come take part in a fun swimming community. Triathletes welcome! Must be appropriate age by November 1st, 2021. The Newtown Torpedoes is in the process of planning for the 2021-2022 season. All new swimmers will need to be evaluated.Yankee league is still in the discussion stage and will be having a meeting in September. At this time, we do not know if there will be swim meets or league championships. We will be splitting up the age groups as follows with a maximum of 12 participants in each group: 8 and under boys, 8 and under girls, 9 and 10 year old boys, 9 and 10 year old girls, 11 and over boys and 11 and older girls. Due to limited enrollment, limited pool time, space/time, safety concerns and new guidelines we need to require that swimmers attend a minimum of 2 practices per week for the entire season. Swimmers age 8 and under MUST be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards (one length of the pool) free style without stopping and using rotary breathing. Swimmers 9 years and over MUST be able to swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool) freestyle without stopping and using rotary breathing. Practice group will be assigned to all swimmers based on age and ability. We will require that you remain in your practice group for the entire season. Locker rooms are available. Upon entering the High School, everyone must wear a mask. Mask can be removed only during swimming. Parents are not permitted to stay at this time.The balcony area will be closed.
