F18 world championships proposal - 2021 INTRODUCTION This document outlines the proposal by The Cruising Yacht Club of WA to host the 2021 F18 World Championships. It covers a description of the Yacht Club location and how to get there, Sailing Waters, Local facilities and Tourist attractions in the area of Rockingham, Western Australia. The Cruising Yacht Club of WA has received written support from Local Government, which includes access to grant funding, aswell as WA State Government, Department of Sport and Recreation, and Department of Tourism. The Rockingham/Kwinana Chamber of Commerce and the Rockingham Visitor Centre have also acknowledged support though promotion to local businesses, opening up access to sponsorship and promotion of the event. F18 world championships proposal - 2021 LOCATION The Cruising Yacht Club of WA is located at 2 Val St, Rockingham and is situated at the Southern End of Cockburn Sound in Mangles Bay, approx. 50kms south of Perth, Western Australia. It boasts a population of above 100,000 and being less than 1hr drive from Perth is a perfect day tripper and holiday destination popular with families. TCYC is conveniently located in the centre of the Rockingham Foreshore Precinct close to public transport, shops, accommodation, restaurants and cafés, all in walking distance from the Yacht Club. The closest shipping port is Fremantle Harbour, 40kms from Rockingham. Page 4
F18 world championships proposal - 2021 HOW TO GET THERE By Car Perth Airport to Rockingham 55kms – 47mins drive Perth Airport has several hire car outlets at the arrival terminal. https://www.perthairport.com.au/to-and-from-the-airport/car-hire By Public Transport Perth Airport to Elizabeth Quay Train Station by Bus. (Train line is currently under construction and should be open by 2021) Elizabeth Quay to Rockingham Train Station by Train, leaves every 15mins and takes 45 minutes. Rockingham Train Station to TCYC by bus or taxi, approx. 10mins. Page 5
F18 world championships proposal - 2021 VENUE TCYC boasts some of the best sailing waters in WA, if not Australia. The club was established in 1959 with the present 2 storey clubhouse being built in 1992. The downstairs area consists of a fully licensed bar, galley, plenty of seating, toilets/showers and undercover outdoor seating area and BBQ. Page 6
F18 world championships proposal - 2021 VENUE Upstairs, ‘The Burgee Room’, has a licensed function room that is frequently used for weddings, corporate functions and Yacht Club events. It also has a balcony perfect for watching the racing right in front of the club. Last year the club jetty and grassed rigging area have had a major facelift which gives the Club a renewed presence to match the adjacent Foreshore reserve and café strip. The club is home to an assortment of fleets including Cruisers and Trailer Sailors, Yvonne Catamarans, 29ers, Flying Ants, Sabres and Minnows. TCYC has one of the biggest and longest running junior sail training programs in WA. TCYC has excellent racing facilities including a large and comfortable start/finish boat the “Andrea Christine”, rescue and RIB coach’s boats, and inflatable marks. TCYC has successfully held large events with the marquee event being the Cockburn Sound Regatta starting Boxing Day every year and has held many State and National Championships for different classes over the years. Most recent Championships were the: • 2015 and 2018 Minnow National Championships • 2014/15 Skate National Championships • 18 x Host Club for Yvonne Catamaran National Championships • 2015/16 Flying Ant National Championships • 2016 Hydrofoil Kite National Championships • 2016 World Hydrofoil Pro Tour Circuit • 2016 F18 State Championships • 2017 and 2018 29er and 49er State Championships Page 7
F18 world championships proposal - 2021 EVENT LAYOUT TCYC will provide an excellent venue for hosting the F18 World Championships with • Plenty of beach rigging for 100+ boats • Container storage behind club carpark • Exclusive carparking area for club patrons • Large grassed outdoor area with plenty of shade for sailors to relax when not racing • Experienced race officials and volunteers • Excellent media coverage of event • Full Club Bar and Restaurant meals open every day of the event • Office space and amenities for executive and protest committees • Protected sailing waters close to shore, flat water, very little tide, no current, clean sandy beaches Page 8

F18 world championships proposal - 2021 LOCAL AMENITIES TRANSPORT TCYC is located within 100m of a free bus service which is a 5 min ride to Rockingham City Shopping Centre and a 10 min ride to Rockingham Train Station. It is a 45 min journey to Perth City on the Train. By car, Perth is 1 hr drive North via the Freeway. Fremantle is 40mins drive to the North and Mandurah is 30 mins drive to the South. ACCOMODATION There is an abundance of accommodation to suit all budgets, all within walking or a short driving distance. These include 2 caravan parks, family holiday home rentals, town houses and modern, multi storey holiday apartments with views of the racing area. Being a holiday destination there are plenty of family holiday houses on www.airbnb.com.au and www.homeaway.com.au to choose from. Just type in Rockingham Beach, WA, Australia into the search box. With the event to be held outside of the peak period these will be easily available and well priced. During sailing events the galley will provide quick and affordable lunch menu to suit the sailing program. There are over 20 options for eating away from the club, all within walking distance. Choose from several take- away fish ‘n’ chip or burger joints, café’s, boutique bars or sit down at one of several classy restaurants overlooking the ocean. Page 12
