BASIC IN VIVO COURSE
We are pleased to invite you to the second edition
of the European Equine Coeliscopy Workshop ! The
National Veterinary School of Alfort and the Grosbois
Equine Clinic are willing to provide a highly practical
workshop, with hands on in-vivo labs and presentation
of clinical cases and surgical pitfalls.

ministerial authorization ;

The National Veterinary School of Alfort, which
is one of the oldest in the world, is located in the
near surbubs of Paris, and easily accessible via
public transportation.
State of the art lectures given in this unique
atmosphere will focus on general principles in
laparoscopy, surgical techniques and tips, as
well as common surgical procedures in equine
practice.
Our goal is to go from « how to » to « can do ».
This course is principally dedicated to ECVS
residents and diplomates, with some acceptance
for surgeons with experience in surgery.
Our long standing partners OPTOMED and
COVIDIEN will provide you with
state of the art equipment.
PROGRAM : MARCH 19&20, 2021 (Drinks and snacks will be provided) Friday • 10.00 - 12.00 : theory Preparation, sedation and analgesia/anesthesia of the patient in laparoscopy (20’) Laparoscopic access and strategies. Prevention of complications (20) Equipment and Instrumentation (20’) - Laparoscopic suturing and knot techniques (20’) Exploratory laparoscopy - standing horse and horse in dorsal decubitus (20’) • 13.30 - 14.30 : theory, including demonstration with videos Laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy (15’) - Laparoscopic ovariectomy (20’) Laparoscopic hernioplasty (20’) • 15.00 -18.30 : ex-vivo Lab, practical simulation exercises with anatomical specimens Orientation and manipulation of instruments Extracorporeal sliding knot techniques Manipulation of the Ligasure, use of surgical staples and glue Continuous suturing and sliding end-knot. Lab 1 In vivo = laparoscopic castration and hernioplasty. Preparation; local
anesthesia; introduction of trocars, surgical anatomy. Surgical procedures on retained
abdominal and/or descended testis using Ligasure and knot techniques
Lab 2 In vivo = laparoscopic ovariectomy. Preparation; local anesthesia; introduction
of trocars, surgical anatomy. Surgical procedures on normal ovaries using Ligasure
and knot techniques.
Ex vivo lab = complementary work on extracorporeal and intracorporeal knots,
continuous suturing and sliding end-knot, use of surgical staples and glue
• 8.30-11.30 - Lab 1 : 3 horses would be used in 3 lab places - 4 participants per lab
place. In each room, 2 participants would work alternatively on Lab 1 and Ex vivo lab.
• 11.30-12.30 : debriefing following the labs
• 14.00-16.30 - Lab 2 : 3 horses would be used in 3 lab places - 4 participants per lab
place. In each room, 2 participants would work alternatively on Lab 2 and Ex vivo lab.
• 17.00-18.00 : debriefing following the labs - Discussion around clinical cases.
• 18.00 : workshop end – shuttle to the airport or free evening and Sunday in Paris.
