The Fundamental Tiers of Life Support Design

1. KEEP ALIVE.
2.BE ABLE TO FUNCTION.
3.COMFORT.

The Rule of 3’s
• 3 seconds  pressure
• 3 minutes  air
• 3 hours  shelter
• 3 days  water
• 3 weeks  food

SUIT ECLSS SUBSYSTEMS

 Major Life Support Subsystems
   1. Atmospheric Revitalization System (ARS)
   2. Atmospheric Control and Supply System (ACSS)
   3. Temperature and Humidity Control (THC)
   4. Fire Detection and Suppression (FDS)
   5. Water Recovery and Management (WRM)
   6. Internal Thermal Control System (ITCS)

 Each subsystem has assemblies,
  each representing a combination
  of technologies.
 Paragon has 28+ years experience
  with ECLSS technologies and
  integrated into major programs.

                                                                           8

Constellation Spacesuit

As part of the Oceaneering Space
Systems-led team, Paragon worked to
develop a suit to meet NASA’s stringent
human spaceflight requirements.
Paragon led thermal modeling and
analysis of the integrated suit, human,
and portable life support subsystem
(PLSS), and designed and delivered
thermal control and PLSS hardware.

                                                                10
StratEx Mission

• 1st NEW operational spacesuit built in the US in 30 years!
• Paragon was the prime systems integrator for StratEx
mission for manned exploration of the stratosphere above
  135,000 feet (41.4 KM)
• Paragon designed and manufactured the system and led
operations (launch, tracking, landing, recovery, and
support) while managing > 20 subcontractors.
• World records set in 2014 still stand today.
• 2014 Collier Trophy Finalist
    • “for the greatest achievement
      in aeronautics or astronautics
      in America”
   StratEx self-contained suit
      and recovery system
   inducted into Smithsonian
        Museum in 2016

Paragon Dive SystemTM

The Paragon Dive System™ (PDS) was
developed for the US Naval Sea Systems
Command (NAVSEA). PDS is a surface-
fed, fully encapsulated protection system
that isolates divers from the hazards found
in grossly contaminated (Category 1) water.
