Open 3.1 Energy & Renewables OnePower Lesotho 20 MW PV plant OnePower Africa is a fast-growing startup based in Lesotho with the mission to bring electricity to underserved communities in developing countries. A 20 MWatt Photovoltaic plant is proposed for development in the Mafeteng district, Lesotho. Royal HaskoningDHV conducted the project ESIA to IFC standard, approved by authorities in 2020. The Abbreviated Resettlement Action Plan (ARAP), including a full census of landowners, is being carried out in line with IFC and African Development Bank (AfdB) Client: OnePower US Trade and Development standard for completion in 2021. Open Training of Trainers Waste to Energy in China The objectives of the assignment was to develop and deliver a training program on international Best Available Technologies (BAT), Best Environmental Practices (BEP) for the design, operation and maintenance of Waste to Energy (WtE) plant using Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) as feedstock. It includes injection as well as production facilities, several wells, a condensate pipeline, connection to the main gas trunk line and an overhead transmission line. Open ESIA and RPF for Wapsila Ewekoro IPP The Wapsila Ewekoro Independent Power Producer (IPP) project consists in 310 MW Power Generation Station (comprised of an existing 90 MW power plant and a new 220 MW power plant) and a new ~5 km high voltage transmission line and new substation to integrate the Power Generation Station to the national grid. For each location a separate ESIA and Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) has been prepared to enhance the benefits of the small hydro plants for the local communities and reduce the adverse effects. The ESIAs follow Ugandan and IFC regulations. Open Hornsea Project One and Two Initially for Hornsea Project One (HOW01) we provided a peer review role for Ørsted during the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and consent process. This involved technical review of Environmental Statement Chapters and provision of strategic advice to ensure no overly arduous construction requirements were placed on Ørsted. Since the award of consent for HOW01 we have provided a suite of Client: Ørsted post consent services including ecology surveys, management of intrusive archaeology surveys, technical advice for traffic Country: UK management, flood management, contaminated land and Year: 2012- 2019 landscape management. We have lead on all consultation requirements with UK regulators both planning and environmental. We have then provided continued consenting and environmental support through construction. This includes additional consents, environmental reporting and auditing of the principal contractor. A similar role was performeed as well on Hornsea Project Two (HOW02). Central Receiver and Parabolic Trough Solar Technologies Undertook a comprehensive EIA, which included a Social and Economic Impact Assessment for a proposed project that will include the installation of two different solar electricity technologies, namely a 150MW Central Receiver a 150MW Parabolic Trough development and their associated electricity and bulk water infrastructure. Client: Solafrica Photovoltaic Energy Limited Country: South Africa Year: 2015-2016 IDA Geothermal Power Plant YERKA Electricity Generation Inc. is undertaking the development of IDA Geothermal Power Plant in Canakkale province of western Turkey. Royal HaskoningDHV was contracted to deliver an ESDD Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) and World Bank in accordance with the national regulatory requirements, World Bank’s (WB) applicable Operational Policies (OPs) and IFC PS and relevant EHS guidelines. Open 3.2 Oil & Gas Azura-Edo Independent Power Plant The Azura-Edo IPP is a 450MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine power station being constructed near Benin City in Edo State. It is Phase 1 of a greenfield 1,500MW IPP facility located on a 100-hectare site, large enough to accommodate future expansion of the power plant. Greenfield gas turbine power plant in in Edo State. The project dealt with impacts in terms of economic and physical displacement. Royal HaskoningDHV was appointed as Lender’ Advisor to assess the Technical, Environmental and Social risks of the project. Our Client: Azura Power E&S Due Diligence report contained an in-depth assessment of the (lenders: FMO, IFC and others) site as resettlement took place. It also contained an Environmental Country: Nigeria Year: 2013 - 2020 and Social Action Plan (ESAP) that was included in the Common Term Agreement. Regular monitoring visits have been conducted during the whole construction phase. Shell Duqm Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) plant Shell is in the process of developing of a new GTL plant in the Al Wusta governorate of the Sultanate of Oman, situated within the Special Economic Zone of Duqm (SEZAD). The concept of the GTL plant is to produce natural gas from the Mabrouk North East and the Greater Barik fields, process this natural gas, a diverse package of products will be produced, consisting of transport fuels, lubricants, waxes and chemicals. Open NLNG Train 7 Project This Project consists of construction and operation of one additional complete liquified natural gas (LNG) train and a common liquefaction unit at the existing Nigeria LNG Ltd (NLNG) facility on Bonny Island, in the Niger Delta. The project will increase the LNG capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa. Royal HaskoningDHV was contracted to update and revalidate the ESIA for the Project. We conducted the ESIA including noise Client: Shell Global Solutions modelling, ambient air modelling, GIS services, field work, Critical Country: Nigeria Habitat Assessment, Social Impact Assessment, Underwater Noise Year: 2018 - 2019 Modelling, Effluent Modelling, SDG’s Quick Scan etc. NLNG received the environmental permit in March 2019. The International ESIA was approved by the lenders in September 2019, before financial close in Decembre 2019. Duqm Petrochemical Project Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (DRPIC) are planning to develop integrated refinery and petrochemical projects in Duqm. The Duqm Petrochemical Project (DPP) is a grassroots petrochemical facility and comprises three key development areas: 1. A Petrochemical Complex at Duqm; 2. An Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Extraction Plant at Saih Nihayda; and 3. An NGL Pipeline from Saih Nihayda to Duqm. Nord Stream 2 pipeline Russian landfall Two 48” pipelines of Nord Stream 2 will largely follow the already existing Nord Stream pipelines over some 1200 km. The Russian landfall for Nord Stream 2 is planned at a different location. The Narva Bay route has been selected as having the least environmental impact for the Russian landfall. This route crosses the Kurgalsky Peninsula Nature Reserve/Sanctuary both in nearshore waters and on land. Open Drilling exploration Shpirag 5 Albania Shell Upstream Albania is planning the drilling of several oil exploration wells in the southern Albanian mountain of Shpirag. Royal HaskoningDHV was appointed to conduct the ESHIA of the project in line with the national legislation and IFC Performance Standards.The ESHIA paid particular attention to stakeholder engagement and communication with the local communities on the environmental aspects of the project. Client: Shell Country: Albania Year: 2018-2019 ESMS Building and Training for Impala Energy The Ebedei Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) compressor station will comprise of eight compressors, each with a capacity of 1,600 scm/h that compresses that gas to 250 bar. Royal HaskoningDHV was asked to develop an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) for both the construction and the operational phase. The ESMS includes the integrated management of all relevant aspects: OHS, HSE, Traffic, (Community) Security, Client: Impala Energy, APM Gas Stakeholder Engagement, Cultural Heritage, Local Content and Country: Nigeria Waste. Royal HaskoningDHV delivered Environmental and Social (E&S) consultancy services relevant during the FEED phase, including the identification of E&S considerations to be taken into account in the Conceptual Study and E&S constraints for the selection of the pipeline route (based on satellite imagery analysis of land-use / land-cover for a 200m corridor). Royal HaskoningDHV has prepared the Environmental Impact Client: South Stream Transport B.V. Assessment (EIA) study for the Project which covers the section of the pipeline that starts from the Turkey-Bulgaria Exclusive Country: Turkey Economic Zone (EEZ) Kilometer Marker 660 (KP660) up to and Year: 2015- 2017 including the Turkish shore. Nustar Terminal Expansion Nustar Energy owns a liquid bulk terminal on Sint Eustatius, a small island in the Caribbean Sea. The land available for expansion is situated next to the airport, close to the village and nearby several terrestrial protected nature areas. The island is surrounded by a Marine Reserve due to the presence of sea turtles and has impressive archaeological remainders. Open 3.3 Mining Koumbia Bauxite Pit-to-Port Project The project consists of a conventional open pit bauxite mining operation, a 120 km road connection to an inland port and transport by barges to a floating transfer terminal. ▪ 2011-2013: ESIA of the project in line with IFC PS and Guinea regulations. Social Best Practice Framework for a Coal Mining Region Tasked to perform a high-level due diligence on emerging coal miners in the Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province, using the IFC’s performance standards as the benchmark. Together with on- site qualitative data collection, develop a social (and environmental) best practice standard for such emerging miners in the Waterberg region that would ultimately be supplying Eskom with coal. Open 3.4 Water Technology Glen Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant Reuse and Drinking Water Supply The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) of Botswana (who are responsible for the supply of potable water to the greater Gaborone area) intends using treated wastewater for re-use as drinking water with the aim to alleviate the scarcity of water supply in the greater Gaborone area. With RVO as the financiers the Botswana Government commissioned Royal HaskoningDHV to undertake the reuse study Client: Botswana Government / RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) including the production of a bankable Environmental and Social Scoping Study. Country: Botswana Year: 2020 - 2021 Sustainable Water Services Harar The objective of the SWSH project is to provide water infrastructure to a part of Harar City, Ethiopia that is currently unconnected to the piped water system. The project consists of an off-take from the water transmission pipeline from the Erer well field to Harar, a water distribution reservoir of 500 m3 to connect 13,868 people in 2028. The project is being carried out in a socially complex context. Client: RVO (Netherlands Enterprise As part of the project an Environmental and Social management Agency) Country: Ethiopia Plan (ESMP) for the construction and operation phase of the project Year: 2019 - ongoing has been prepared. Pyigiytagon water supply project Objective of the project is developing a sustainable water supply system for the Pyigyitagon township (approximately 70% of the township does not have access to piped water supply). Royal HaskoningDHV prepared a subsidy application (€30 million) including ESIA and corresponding management plans, Land Acquisition & Compensation Framework Plan to suit Lender (RVO) requirements. The main goal was to comply with international human rights standards. As a result, the project was granted with the subsidy. Open La Paz drinking water project ESIA of the extension of a water supply plant of Pampahasi in La Paz and the improvement of the efficiency of water use in La Paz. Open 3.5 Rivers, Deltas and Coasts Nyaungdon Bank Protection and Rehabilitation Project The project involves implementation of structural and non-structural measures to avoid riverbank erosion along the Pan Hlaing River and reduce flood risks in Nyaungdon City. Royal HaskoningDHV was tasked to determine the preferred design to protect the embankment and develop a detailed design for the works along a riverbank which is densely populated and utilised. An Client: RVO (Netherlands Enterprise ESIA and Resettlement Policy Framework are also requested for Agency) completion. Deferred and Routine Maintenance Dredging of the Odaw Drainage Basin in Accra Various problems come together in the catchment of the Odaw River in the Greater Accra Regions: reduced drainage capacity in channels by sedimentation, resulting in flooding; informal settlers living close to the channels and encroaching the area and; limited sanitation (solid waste, wastewater, open defaecation, storm water) in the area resulting in dumping waste in the channels. Client: RVO (Netherlands Enterprise A dredging strategy to provide short-term alleviation and longer- Agency) term maintenance will be developed, including identification of Country: Ghana disposal sites for dredged materials, sand trap locations and Year: 2019 - ongoing options for the future use of a large weir in de Odaw River. The Ocean Cleanup’ Interceptor™ Deployment in Ozama River According to The Ocean Clean-up, roughly 3 million kg of plastic annually enters the ocean through Ozama River. The Interceptor is deployed with the aim to remove plastic from the river before it can reach the ocean. Open Master Plan of the City of Beira As part of the implementation of the Master Plan of the City of Beira, the Municipal Council of Beira intends to develop residential and industrial projects on 500 h each one. In order to allow the land levelling of these 2 projects, it will be also necessary to dredge sands from Macúti Bay, Sofala Province. Open Physical Restauration, Protection and Maintenance Works of Saly beach The coastal areas of Saly are currently severely impacted by coastal erosion. The potential increase in sea level rise threatens to impact further the current infrastructure built along the coastline (hotel, fishing village, houses, etc.). Saly, is one of the country's biggest tourist hubs; as such the Government of Senegal is looking to address this issue urgently. Client: APIX (Investment Promotion and Major Projects Agency / World Royal HaskoningDHV, in partnership with HPR-Ankh, developed Bank the ESIA and a Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) to gain Country: Senegal national consent and also to obtain financing from the World Bank. Year: 2016 The detailed review of the project components and alternatives highlighted early on key constraints which were considered further in the preliminary design. The consortium developed a tailored strategy for responsible parties to efficiently manage health, safety, environmental and social risks during construction and operation of the new coastal defence. Maldives Coastal Protection The densely populated island of Fuvahmulah (8,500 inhabitants) is experiencing severe erosion and flooding problems, threatening the safety and livelihood of the inhabitants. Coastal protection works have been designed to protect the island’s integrity. An ESIA was prepared to enhance this design in its environmental and social aspects. The ESIA was an important instrument to compare two viable alternatives: an offshore breakwater protection and an onshore revetment on the island ridge. The design was Client: Ministry of Environment adapted to create a sustainable solution to protect the island. Country: Maldives Year: 2015-2016 EKO Atlantic Land Reclamation South Energyx is undertaking the development of the Eko Atlantic project. However, the actual procedures and effectiveness of the instrument can be enhanced. Royal HaskoningDHV prepares, together with the Environmental Conservation Department in Myanmar, the Netherlands Commission on Environmental Assessment (NCEA) and Water Bridge Myanmar, Technical and Procedural Guidelines for Client: RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) in the Port, Harbour and Terminal sector.
