It’s been a little quiet lately when it comes to what is happening with our church and our relationship with the RCA. I wanted to update you on our next steps. Currently the Discernment Team has done its job and has brought 4 denomination/network recommendations to the consistory. The consistory was introduced to them at February’s meeting. The consistory will now look at those recommendations, ask more questions and seek input from representatives for each denomination/network. We hope to get this down to our top two possibilities by May. This doesn’t mean the move is for sure. As stated before there are two key votes to our relationship with the RCA. The first was done by the consistory in January and with a greater than 75% margin, voted to leave the RCA. The second vote and the more important vote will come from you as communicant members. This will take place in April. At the next consistory meeting on March 8th, the consistory will be approving a document as to why we are choosing to leave the RCA which will be sent out to you upon their approval. Look for this mailing fairly soon after that March 8 meeting. Once you receive that document we ask you take the time to read over it. The document is fairly long. It is almost 10 pages, but we wanted to clearly explain why it is time to depart from the RCA. You will find many things within that document that you might not even have been aware of, that are currently happening within our denomination. You will also see our decision to leave goes beyond the issue of same sex marriage. Within the document you will discover the greater concern and direction the RCA is going. Following receiving that document, there will be a time for questions and discussion. On Sunday, April 3 at 3:00 pm we will have a congregational meeting in which you will have the opportunity to express your feelings on leaving or staying with the RCA. This will be a time to listen, not a time of dialogue. We want to give every individual who chooses to be given the chance to share their personal feelings on this issue. For the rest it is a time to listen. Once we have had our time to listen we will then ask you to spend the next couple of weeks prayerfully lifting up this issue and our final vote. On Sunday, April 24 we will be taking our official vote for staying or leaving the RCA. This will take place right after our morning worship service on that day. In order for a change to happen the vote needs to pass by a 75% margin of all the attending communicate members. Absentee ballots will be accepted at that meeting, so long as they are approved before the vote. Anything less than the 75% requirement will mean that we remain with the RCA. If the vote passes with a greater than 75% requirement the consistory will move forward to select a denominational choice to join and then have a congregational meeting to present the information about that denomination and then a vote from the congregational for approval for the move. There is a lot to think about. I urge you to educate yourself on what is happening, ask questions, seek counsel, dig into the scriptures, and most importantly pray!!! Ask God for guidance and direction and seek the Holy Spirit as we make this decision. When we are faithful to God he is faithful to us. I love you, but God loves you even more!!! Pastor Luke
From Our Ministry Coordinator… Dear Emmanuel Family, Please find below my monthly report I submitted for the February consistory meeting. I wanted to share it with all of you this month because we have so much to be thankful for. At the same time, we must not get “comfortable” but must continue to respond to God’s calling in the life of this church. I hope you will become as excited as I am!! Excited about Sanctuary Choir/Voices of Praise: Sanctuary Choir resumed regular Monday night rehearsals and have added 7 new members in the last three weeks!! Voices of Praise has begun practicing the upcoming Spring cantata, “We Will Stand!” which will be presented April 22, 23 & 24. Excited because we have about a dozen more singers than we did for Christmas. Most excited because Monday nights have become a time of Worship and we leave feeling like we are “having church!” Praise God! Excited about YEAH where sign ups are going well for the 2022 events. Excited that we a great turnout for our Christian movie day last month! Excited that we had close to 50 attending the Valentine's Day Banquet last Monday, including singles and widows that may spend a lonely day otherwise. Excited that 6 people have already signed up for the June and August work days at the Rockford Rescue Mission and 5 have signed up for the July trip to work at the City Rescue Mission Thrift Store in Lansing, Michigan. Looking forward to even more jumping on board to serve! Excited because Nick Becker reports the Thursday grocery delivery to those in need of delivery is going great with wonderful volunteers! We are making a difference! Excited that Wednesday night meals are going well. Crowds have been smaller, which is typically the case in the winter, serving between 160-280 people, but people have loved the food and the “inside folks” are enjoying the fellowship very much. Excited that the Worship/Choral Conference I had to cancel out on in Nashville in January has been offered again in Houston, TX in July. I will be flying to Houston for five days to attend that continuing education opportunity being held at a large Baptist Church just outside Houston. For several years now, my annual continuing education week has been paid for by the generous cantata offerings. A reminder that no budgeted funds are used to finance the Adult Choral ministries each year! Cantata offerings keep that ministry completely self-sufficient! Excited that the Little Folks Choir resumes singing monthly once again for the first time since COVID entered the picture! So thrilled to hear the little ones lift their voices to God one Sunday each month!! Excited to look out from the organ each week during Worship and see the pews filling up with worshippers engaged in the music and awesome preaching taking place each week. Visitors that attend for the first time and staying and coming back week after week…God is doing a work here at Emmanuel and it is so exciting to be a part of it. It has been noticeable to see the increased number of children here, as well. The Sunday School is pumping!!! GO GOD GO!!!!!!!!!!!! Rich~

If Time Could Talk Time is one element in life that is constant regardless of what happens in an attempt to speed it up or slow it down, it does not budge. The one thing it does do though is collect memories of past happenings, challenges and events. Every memory recorded has a time element connected to it that reflects certain thoughts and memories that surround and designate the memory and its importance in one’s life. Well, time has recorded the past seventy-five (75) years in the history of Emmanuel Reformed Church and as preparation to celebrate the anniversary nears everyone is invited to take a trip “back in time” and gather any and all memories and/or photographs related to Emmanuel over the past years. Sharing of these memories and photos will be made available to the community via publications that will be prepared for the upcoming anniversary celebration and kept for the generations that follow in Emmanuel's future. Details of the forthcoming anniversary activities will surface within the next weeks, but in the interim you are asked to submit any and all photos that reveal past activities or events that were related to Emmanuel Reformed Church. This anniversary celebration is a great opportunity to relive the past while offering a vision into the past for our younger members. Regardless of one’s age, the time spent worshiping God with friends and relatives holds special memories and sharing that time during 2022 will be a blessing for all to view. Your assistance is appreciated and will establish new memories for all attending. Any photos and/or commemorative items that you wish to share should be brought to the office with some form of I.D. attached so all can be returned following their usage. Voices of Praise will present our 13th Spring celebration: “We Will Stand!” Friday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. Saturday April 23 at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.

YF MEATLOAF DINNER March 23, 2022 From 5-6:30 pm Meal includes: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and Fruit Cobbler Proceeds will go towards the Sr. High YF Summer Mission Trip to Elliot County, Kentucky The Mission Deep in the Appalachian range, in the small town of Sandy Hook in Elliott County, Kentucky, students can expect to connect with God’s creative design for their lives personally by actively engaging with our initial efforts to be part of bringing restoration to the land in this community. At the Adullam Kentucky Project, students will have the opportunity observe how the land on which God created us to live has been brilliantly and lovingly created to provide all that is necessary for us to thrive. As part of this, they will get to be part of the creation of a spiritual center that will be used as a house of prayer. In bringing revival to misused and damaged land, we can more clearly understand the spiritual principles that God uses to bring revival to the hearts of people. Our hope is that the discovery of God’s incredible design of life will unfold through adventure and learning as a living model of people gather to glorify God through working together and sharing a reflection of God’s love to the world around us. This is a DINE-IN or CARRY OUT Dinner Event (there will be no drive-thru service)
