Table Experiences When we had finished our morning tea Miss Tayla and Miss Sharnee set up the tables with some different activities for the Elephants to explore. Leah, Ferrah, Tobias and Meghan all showed great interest in revisiting the large shape magnets. While Leah was doing some building with the magnets Miss Tayla asked her what it was she was mak- ing, Leah looked over to Miss Tayla and pointed to the large box she had created with the large squares. Ferrah and Tobias both showed great interest in sorting the colours and shapes into different areas. While Leah, Ferrah, Tobias and Meghan were sitting at the activity they were able to use their fine motor skills as they placed the shapes where they wanted them, it also helped with being able to recognise shapes and colours. At the other table was some threading for the Elephants to give it a try. Keith, Cienna, Caleb, Evelyn and Deacon were all happy to give threading a try. Cienna and Deacon both got the shoe lace and placed the round disk onto their hands. Caleb and Evelyn both showed great interest in seeing how many disk they could thread onto the shoe lace. Keith showed great interest in getting the larger threading beads and stacking them onto of each other, when Miss Sharnee sat down with Keith and asked him if her could recognised some of the colours Keith confidently pointed out the yellow beads that he had gathered to build his tower. While Keith, Cienna, Deacon, Caleb and Evelyn all did some threading it was able to help their fine motor skills as well as their hand eye coordination.
Construction Sensory Tray The elephants did a great job at collecting their hats from their bags before lining up at the door and waiting patiently for Miss Sharnee to open it. They ran outside, excited to see what Miss Tayla had set up for them today. The found the black tough tray filled with lots of sand, rocks and some piles of dirt made out of brown sugar. The children were eager to get involved as soon as they saw the trucks . Leah began pilling the sand and dirt into the back of the tip truck and then tipping it back out in a different ar- ea. Deacon couldn't resist crushing one of the dirt pile with the cement truck. Cienna and Evelyn worked together, using the digger to collect piles of dirt and sand and transport them across to another pile. “Look Miss Tayla” Keith said as he filled the bucket of his digger with rocks and drove it over to Caleb. Sensory activities like this are a great opportunity for the children to learn about different textures and use their imagi- nation. The elephants were very excited to explore their very own construction site today using all different kinds of trucks. We plan to continue to introduce sensory experiences related to our topic.
Our Group Time Today the Elephants room did their first group time all to- gether, transitioning in from outside play Miss Sharnee invited the Elephants to the mat all talking a seat around and near Miss Sharnee. The children were excited turning on their listen- ing ears ready to sing along to their favourite songs alongside their friends. We started off with our welcome song, welcoming ourselves and all our friends for the day. Miss Sharnee then asked the chil- dren what songs they wanted to sing. “Fish!” Said Keith “ Baby shark” Said Cienna “Bubble” Said Caleb The children all got involved listening, singing and following the actions along to their chosen songs including Once I caught a fish alive, Baby Shark, Tiny turtle, Open shut them and Insy wincey spider. We plan to in-cooperate group times into our daily morning rou- tine. Group time allows the children to have the opportunity to share their ideas, engage in conversations, listen to others, de- velop and practice their skills within a social group and gain in- formation and knowledge from their fellow peers and educators.
