Early Learning and Childcare Parent Workshop Aberdeenshire Council Turriff Nursery 27th January 2020
Aim of this meeting: • Provide information to current and future parents regarding nursery expansion of hours (1140). • Illustrate what nursery hours are available to parents. • Please note this is an information session and not an induction. • Once you are allocated a place at Turriff Nursery normal induction process will follow. • This presentation will be uploaded onto our website for further reference. • Please bear with us as its new to all of us, if we don’t know the answer we will find out and get back to you.
Scottish Government aims: “Make Scotland the best place in the world to grow up in by improving outcomes and reducing inequalities for all babies, children, mothers, fathers and families across Scotland to ensure that all children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed” (Children and Young People (Scotland) Act (2014)) “The Scottish Government have committed to offering every family in Scotland 1140 hours of funded Early Learning and Childcare by August 2020. This is for 3 and 4 year olds and eligible two year olds in some settings.”
2020 – TRIAL of expansion to nursery hours Known as 1140 hrs • Current nursery provision is 600 hours - usually a selection of: 5 x 3hr10mins sessions. • 1140 is the increased number of funded hours a child is entitled to through a funded nursery place. • Various patterns of attendance are on offer. • Turriff Nursery will be offering 1140 hours after Easter holidays. 20 April 2020 onwards. • From August 2020, all nursery children will be entitled to 1140 hours from 3 years of age until starting school.
How will 1140 achieve our aims: • Quality: High quality learning and childcare experiences which complement all other educational and early years activities. • Flexibility: pattern of provision aims to support parents and carers in work, training or study. • Affordable: increase access to funded childcare. • Accessible: conveniently located in your school catchment area.
Quality: Environment: Modern purpose built facility which will have direct access to outdoor area. Affordability and Flexibility: Extended hours aims to support parents and working families in work and or study. Turriff Nursery will be open 8am – 6pm, 50 weeks a year. Closed during Christmas break, occasional holidays and in-service days. Occasional holidays Term 4: 29 May, 1 June 2020. All these dates are listed on school calendar at the beginning of each school year. 1140 hours can be used at Turriff nursery or split between other childcare provider. • Childminder/ Private Nursery Important that parents inform nursery of when child is available to attend. Opportunity to change pattern of attendance can only happen at intake times with sufficient notice being given. (August / January / Easter)
Daily Time Table Turriff Nursery is open 50 weeks a year from August 2020. Closed over Christmas break. An additional 4 weeks holiday must be booked throughout the year. How 1140 looks in tokens: If you are taking up the extended hours your child would be entitled to have: Term Time only: 6 Tokens per week OR All Year (50 weeks): 5 Tokens per week

Family Room We are aware that drop off and collection times do not coincide with school drop off and collections. We propose offering you a “Family Room” where you are welcome to come in and relax from after school until 4:10 collection. Room will be open 8 - 9am then again 3 - 4:10pm • Homework / Reading • Local Park • School Playgrounds • This area is NOT supervised by staff.
Nursery Applications for 2020/2021 close on 31 January 2020 http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/applyForNurseryPlace • At this stage you are applying for a place at Turriff Nursery, however there is no guarantee you will be allocated a place. You must state your THREE preferences. • All application forms must be submitted online at above link, this info will be gathered by Development Workers who will allocate applications to schools. • Once you have been allocated to Turriff Nursery we will get your information from Development Worker. • Only at this point you will need to provide proof of ID and child's birth certificate. • Then hours will be allocated, again no guarantee you will get what you have selected.

Current Parents with children Future Parents with children not already attending Nursery. attending Turriff Nursery yet. • Look out for Microsoft Forms Think about your patterns of questionnaire to state if you will attendance. be taking up the 1140 hours. • Complete questionnaire clearly stating preferred sessions. • Submit form Allocation letters will be sent on the following dates: Children due to start in August 2020: 17 March 2020 Children due to start in January 2021: 25 September 2020 Children due to start in April 2021: 4 December 2020
Frequently Asked Questions? • Drop off and collection times: The door will be staffed for 10 mins at drop off and collection times, from the start time for 10 mins into session the 10 mins before end of session and children must be away by the collection time. • Food and drinks? Morning snack (eg:fruit and rice cake). Lunch from menu. (eg chicken curry) Afternoon snack (eg savory rice) Water and or milk on offer. • Sessions that are closest to school times? If you want sessions that fit with school times then you are best going with 5 Mornings 8am – 1pm or stay or core hours – 8:50 - 12:00
