Diocesan World Youth Day Leader’s Guide: Everything you need to know to organize a delegation from your parish or school 1. About the Event Diocesan World Youth Day is an annual World Youth Day experience offering young men and women grades 9-12 a fun and faith-filled celebration of our Catholic faith. Youth from every parish and school are invited to attend. In 2021, the Diocesan WYD will be a single-day, outdoor event complete with music, food trucks, speakers, activities and games, and finally, Eucharistic exposition and Mass with Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades. The young Church will encounter the contagious enthusiasm of following Christ from faith-filled priests, seminarians, religious, youth, and youth leaders from our diocese. Date: Saturday, August 28, 2021 Location: Headwaters Park, Fort Wayne (Lincoln Financial Pavilion) Time: 12:00 p.m.—10:00 p.m. (Check in is from 11:00 a.m.— 11:45 a.m.) Cost: $60 (Scholarships available) Meals Provided: Pizza Lunch 11:00 a.m. / Dinner Ticket for Food Trucks Registration: https://diocesefwsb.org/youth-conference/ (Registrations due August 15). (Paper registration forms available in English and Spanish upon request) 2. Sending a Parish Delegation The Diocesan WYD is a powerful celebration of our faith as a diocese, but our planning team realizes that the best ministry happens at large events when there can be continued follow-up and ministry for our youth at their home parishes. This is one of the most important reasons to have youth attend Diocesan WYD as part of a parish delegation. We recommend that you have at least one adult for every eight youth attending. 1. Youth and adult leaders should register at diocesefwsb.org/youth-conference. 2. Your parish should submit the Parish Delegation Form (p.5-6) to jpratt@diocesefwsb.org no later than August 15, 2021. This information sheet will allow your parish to create small groups of teens with adult leaders from your parish. 3. Should any adults or youth register from your parish, we will keep you informed with weekly emails from July 15-August 15 so your Parish Delegation Form includes everyone registered from your parish.
3. Scholarships We have received a generous grant from the Mary Cross Tippmann Foundation allowing us to offer 100-150 full and partial scholarships to the Diocesan WYD. These scholarships are targeted for rural / minority communities. Please complete the Scholarship Request Form (p.7) to list how many scholarships your parish can use. 4. Bus Transportation The Diocesan WYD will be offering shuttle buses from Elkhart and Mishawaka. The shuttle bus can make stops at other parishes along the route upon request. Shuttle-bus timing: 9:00 a.m. Pick up at Mishawaka / Elkhart 10:10 a.m. Pick-up at second parish 11:10 a.m. Arrive at Headwaters Park EVENT 12:00 p.m.—10:00 p.m. 10:15 p.m. Leave Headwaters Park 11:00 p.m. Drop-off at second parish 12:15 a.m. Arrive back at Mishawaka / Elkhart 5. Waivers All parish delegation leaders will be given a copy of the youth waivers when they arrive at the event. If you are organizing a carpool or using the shuttle bus from your parish, please be sure obtain copies of the waivers before the event by contacting jpratt@diocesefwsb.org. These online forms will provide the waiver / medical information needed for providing transportation. For parishes that simply ask youth to provide their own transportation, you will be given a packet of completed waivers when checking in at Headwaters Park.
