The UK Nail Tech competition returns on Sunday 20th and Monday 21st May as part of the annual Beauty UK show, taking place at the NEC Birmingham. This year, there are four fabulous Student Tech competitions taking place on the Monday, created especially to recognise talented student nail techs currently studying in the UK. The competition has been devised by Competition Director, Denise Wright, and organised by Guild Press Ltd, publishers of Guild News magazine, and organiser of the Beauty UK exhibition. For 2018, there are four fantastic Student Tech Competitions for you to enter: ‘Student Tech Tip & Overlay Challenge’ for those who want to demonstrate their tip blending and overlay skills, ‘Student Tech Permanent Polish’ demonstrating French and polishing techniques, ‘Student Tech Boxed Nail Art’ for those keen to perfect their nail art skills, and ‘Student Snap Shot Challenge’ – the student photographic competition where you take your images on your smartphone or tablet! Taking part in a competition is a great way to build your confidence and have your work critiqued by some of the leading names in UK nails. In each competition, you will be competing against fellow students of similar skill and experience level. If you’re serious about becoming a professional nail tech, entering UK Nail Tech 2018 will improve your skill level and be an impressive addition to your CV when you start applying for full time positions. Entry for students is just £20 per category and all you need is to ask your college lecturer to book your place for one or both of the competitions before Friday 4th May. Entry is in agreement with the rules and regulations.
Student Tech Permanent Polish – Monday 21st May, 8.30am Competitors are given one hour (60 minutes) to complete one hand of nail enhancements using Permanent Polish, including nail shaping, prepping and application. The thumb and pinkie must be painted with two coats of red crème permanent polish, whilst the other nails should have a French finish. Student Tech Tip & Overlay Challenge – Monday 21st May, 11.00am The Student Tech Tip & Overlay Challenge category is open to students who have been learning any type of nails for less than two years and have never entered any professional nail competition before. It is very popular with Level 2 / 3 college students. You will have one hour (60 minutes) to complete one hand of competition nails to NVQ Level 2 standard demonstrating natural tip blending, in one colour. The thumb and pinkie must be then painted in two coats of red crème polish (provided). Student Tech Boxed Nail Art – ‘Last Night of the Proms’ Theme In the Student Tech Boxed Nail Art competition, judges are looking for 10 decorated nails presented in a plain display box, over which the theme of ‘Last Night of the Proms’ is demonstrated. Designs must feature at least three different mediums / techniques to demonstrate your skills, such as 3D sculpting, encapsulation or hand painted techniques. The beauty of this category is that your work is completed at home or college, so you can spend as long as you like creating it – all that limits you is your imagination! Your Boxed Nail Art entry must be accompanied by a visual Step-by-Step (download a template from the website). Include your design ideas, props used and how the design was achieved. The Step-by-Step is also used to confirm the authenticity of your entry, and if this is not available your entry may not be judged. You can either post your entry ahead of the competition date, or bring it along to the Nail Competition Area on Sunday 20th May before 11am. We’re sorry but entries will not be posted back to you however you, can collect your entry after the awards presentation. Student Tech Snap Shot Challenge – ‘Last Night of the Proms’ Theme The Student Tech Snap Shot Challenge lets you create a fabulous set of nails to the theme ‘Last Night of the Proms’ and then have fun photographing them on your smartphone or tablet! No need for expensive photoshoots, just create a background that reflects the theme, create your nails – with or without nail art – snap the shot and email it to us! Your entry must be accompanied by a visual Step-by-Step (download a template from the website). Include your design ideas, props used and how the design was achieved. The Step-by-Step is also used to confirm the authenticity of your entry, and if this is not available your entry may not be judged. Get snapping! UK Student Nail Tech 2018 As well as naming winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) in each category, the competition will reward the student nail tech with the overall highest score, taking into account all points accumulated for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placements, over all student competitions including any Snap Shot Challenge and Boxed Nail Art entries. This means that the more competitions you are placed in, the better chance you have to be named overall winner and UK Student Nail Tech 2018.
