23 24 MAY 2019 Istituto degli Innocenti / Firenze MAIN DEVELOPMENTS IN EUROPEAN AND ITALIAN COMPETITION LAW
The conference, which the Association organizes every two years and that this year is organized in collaboration with the Italian Association of Business Jurists (AIGI) and Assonime, is one of the main appointments of the Italian antitrust community. During the event, developments in the public and private enforcement of competition law in the European Union are examined in depth, through the involvement of the most authoritative experts on the subject, academics and representatives of the European, Italian and other EU member countries. . The conference, on the eve of the European elections, takes place at a particularly relevant time for the discipline from various points of view: • the question of the relationship between industrial policy and competition has been raised from various sides and changes to European merger control have been proposed; • questions are raised on the criteria for the application of the legislation and in particular on the opportunity to take into account the connection between market power and political influence and additional public interests beyond the efficiency and well-being of the consumer; • the digitalization of the markets poses the problem of the interaction between antitrust, privacy legislation and consumer protection; • in recent years more and more attention has been paid to the relationships between business ethics and competitive conduct, especially in public markets; • finally in Italy, as in the main European countries, the application of antitrust law is expanding in front of civil courts, which in our country will certainly be encouraged by the redesign and extension of the class action legislation. These themes are studied in depth into the different sessions, together with the others that trace the developments of European and national applicative and jurisprudential practice. The program includes 5 plenary sessions and 8 parallel sessions, in which some of the main topics of interest for the specialists and companies will be discussed: from the interrelation between antitrust and privacy legislation to relations with procurement law, data use and unfair commercial practices, procedural aspects and rights of defense, developments in private enforcement, as well as the latest developments in concentrations, understandings and abuses both from a substantive and procedural point of view.
