AUSKEY TRANSITION OVERVIEW We, and the Australian Government, take your online safety, security and privacy seriously. As part of our ongoing commitment to security in a constantly evolving digital economy, AUSkey, device AUSkey and Manage ABN Connections (MAC) will officially be retired at the end of March 2020 and replaced with myGovID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). As a result, access to ATO’s online services will require the end user to be verified as an individual and specifically authorised to act on behalf of a business. Why is AUSkey being replaced? What will replace AUSkey? × Not supported on mobile devices myGovID is your digital identity which makes it easier to prove who you are online × Not compatible with all internet browsers Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) allows × Difficult to setup and maintain you to act on behalf of a business with participating × Authorisations don’t carry across channels government online services × No password reset functionality Machine Credential is installed on a device / business server and enables you to interact directly with government online services FOR OFFICIAL USE | DIGITAL IDENTITY | AUSKEY TRANSITION 4
MYGOVID OVERVIEW myGovID is the Australian Government's digital identity provider and a new way to prove who you are online. It is an identity enrolment and credential solution that is ‘tethered’ to an individual and is available on mobile devices only. Benefits of myGovID • It’s simple – use your myGovID to unlock multiple government online services. You no longer need multiple AUSkeys. • It’s flexible – use your myGovID on the go, anywhere and anytime. You no longer have to use the same AUSkey desktop or device. • It’s secure - myGovID uses security features in your device to protect your identity and information. FOR OFFICIAL USE | DIGITAL IDENTITY | AUSKEY TRANSITION 6
MYGOVID OVERVIEW myGovID is not the same as myGov Your myGovID lets you prove who you are when using government online services. = Your myGov account lets you select and link to government online services from one place. myGovID is different to AUSkey • myGovID is not linked to a computer, it’s linked to you as an individual. • myGovID is used to access business and tax services, based on the businesses and entities you are authorised for in RAM. In future you will be able to use myGovID to access individual services. • myGovID is more secure than AUSkey because of the higher identification standard required to get a myGovID. This ensures the right person is acting on behalf of the business or entity and has the proper authority to do so. FOR OFFICIAL USE | DIGITAL IDENTITY | AUSKEY TRANSITION 7
SETTING UP MYGOVID To set up a myGovID you will need the following: A smart device using iOS 10 or later on Apple devices or Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later.
