ONLINE CONFERENCE & GALA WEEKEND IN 1971 twelve African American architects from differ- ent parts of the country met, some for the first time, during the AIA National Convention in Detroit. What these pro- fessionals recognized was the desperate need for an organization dedicated to the development and advancement of minority architects. That was the beginning of the National Organization of Minority Architects. NOMA today champions diversity within the design professions by promoting the excellence, community engagement, and professional devel- opment of its members. Over the past five decades, NOMA has grown to over 2,500 members in over 120 professional and student chapters in North America. IN 2021 we invite you to join us online and in Detroit as we honor our history, relish in our present-day accomplishments, and look to build a brighter future for our profession and our communities. 3 N O M A C E L E B R AT E S 50 Y E A R S | D E T R O I T H O M E C O M I N G | O C TO B E R 20–23, 2021 | N O M A .
