WELCOME TO DST Welcome to Desert Stages Theatre, and thank you for joining us at this performance of THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES! We have thoroughly enjoyed producing this show about love and friend- ship - and the joys and perils of each - with director Molly Lajoie, music director John Luke Osorio, and the rest of the amazing production team. We expect you will enjoy this show too, and we hope the Wonderettes will inspire you to smile, laugh, and even hum along to more than 30 clas- sic songs that you know and love. With this show, Desert Stages is thrilled to reintroduce music to our Main- stage. We are cautiously optimistic, in this post-pandemic era, as we take another step in the direction of normalcy. We continue our enhanced cleaning measures in between performances to keep you safe. In return, we ask that you kindly wear your mask the entire time you are in the the- atre, and stay in your assigned seat. If you wish to meet with your friends or one of the cast members after the show, please arrange to do so in the food court area of the shopping mall. There will be no gathering in the DST lobby. Safety First! Thank you again for your support of live theatre and for your attendance at this performance of THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES. Whether you are seeing your 100th show or your first at DST, you are a valued member of the Desert Stages Theatre community, and we appreciate you more than you could ever know! Ellen Versen Executive Director
DIRECTOR'S LETTER From as far back as I can remember, I was singing and dancing, and thanks to my parents, most of it was to tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. From listen- ing to the “oldies” on the radio in the car, playing records in my room or watching television programs like Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, I grew up loving everything about that time period. Every week, I would put on the poodle skirt my Grandmother made me and sing and dance the hour away to my favorite show, Sha Na Na! When I was 10 my Dad got tickets to see them in concert. Watching them on stage, dancing to all the songs I knew and loved and getting to see “Good Night Sweet- heart” live is a memory I cherish and have never forgotten! The Marvelous Wonderettes transports us to events that people also cherish and never forget. Through the hits of the 50’s and 60’s we watch these girls navigate their lives and relationships through their Senior Prom and 10 Year Class Reunion. We see new twists put on some of the classic songs of the time. I feel a strong connection to this show because these songs are so much a part of me. They take me back to a simpler and more innocent time and I know we all could use a little bit of that right now! 10-year-old Molly hopes that you leave humming these tunes with a little more dance in your step. Adult Molly appreci- ates your support of the arts and all the artists that collaborated to make this project come to life! May this night be one that you will never forget! Thank you! Molly Lajoie
