What Happens When Staff/Student Tests Positive? • Identification of school link triggers priority response by DPH • Two-way communication School DPH • School will assist with identifying close contacts • Parents should be encouraged to notify school as well
Will the School Need to Be Shut Down ? • Whole school closure is unlikely • Risk assessment and guidance based on case investigation • Adherence to use of face coverings and social distancing will be vital
Scenario 1: Q: Teacher tests positive but has consistently worn a mask and was not closer than 6 feet for more than 15 consecutive minutes to any of his or her students: A: Students do not need to quarantine.
Scenario 2: Q: First-grade student tests positive, sat at a desk less than six feet apart from another student for more than 15 minutes and did not wear a mask. A: Student next to the positive case would need to quarantine. Q: What if they were wearing a face covering? A: The student next to the positive case would not need to quarantine.
