Let’s celebrate On Thursday 2 June 2022, we will celebrate another unique milestone in our history, Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth - her Platinum Jubilee. It is a feat no previous monarch has achieved. In 2022, the Bank Holiday has been moved We are organising a number of events to take to Thursday 2 June and the celebrations will place over the Bank Holiday weekend and we continue on until Sunday 5 June. The Palace would like to see as many organisations and has partnered with event organisers, the Bruno residents as possible getting involved. Event Schedule Thursday 2 June, 2022 Friday 3 June, 2022 11:30am - 12:30pm We have no events planned this Canopy Planting day, but there may be other events We will be planting a tree at Queen’s Square in hosted by local community groups Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead to commemorate the Queen’s Green Canopy Planting. The event will welcome the community and local dignitaries to participate. Sustainable Hertfordshire has been asked by the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire to co-ordinate the Hertfordshire approach. This has included setting up a dedicated email QueensGreenCanopy@ hertfordshire.gov.uk to receive questions, offer planting advice, funding information and details of where free trees can be sourced. Further information can be found at www.lord-lieutenant-herts. org.uk/the-queens-green- canopy-plant-a-tree-for-the- jubilee The Queen’s Green Canopy “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, there is a UK wide tree planting initiative inviting people to take part to increase the amount of trees across the country. We will be part of this initiative, which will focus on three main aspects: 1 Continuing the success of planting trees across the Borough 2 Providing information about how others can get involved, using their own land to plant trees 3 Developing and expanding the current tree sponsorship scheme to help cover future maintenance costs 1 Tree Planting Gadebridge Park Throughout January and February more than 500 whips and 15 standard Cherry trees 1,300 trees have been planted as part of the Tree Planting Strategy, as well as separate Keens Field projects. Of the trees planted, 915 were whips 415 whips (2-3 year old trees) - these were all mixed native species including Hazel, Holly, Cherry, Coronation Fields Hornbeam, Blackthorn, Hawthorn and Apple. A 30 standard trees – mixed species (Maple, fence will be erected to protect the whips from Birch, Cherry, Lime, Rowan) unwanted attention, which can be removed after 5 -7 years. 210 trees were ‘small’ and 188 Leys Road open space were ‘standard’ (2- 3 metres tall). 210 small fruit trees including further Apple and Cherry varieties, Pear, Greengage and Between now and 2025 another 1,000 native Plum. 2 How to get involved The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative recognises that Councils have a valuable role to play in championing the QGC in their area. Information about how people can get involved in the QGC can be found at www.queensgreencanopy.org which gives information for communities, individuals and organisations. Beacon Lighting On Thursday 2 June, more than 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories. For the first time, beacons will also be lit in each of the capital cities of the Commonwealth countries to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The Big Jubilee Lunch We are keen to help support everyone in organising community events, from large to small. This pack has been designed to help provide the most useful and up-to-date information, which you can use to make sure your event is safe and fun for everyone. Dacorum’s road closures will need to be processed by Hertfordshire County Council. Most of these requests will be available free of charge, as long as they do not affect a bus route. Platinum Jubilee requests will need to be made before 21 April, to allow for processing time.
