Recipe of the Month Cryptogram Mark 11 – The Triumphal Entry Match the numbers to their corresponding letters to reveal the hidden message. Date-Nut Orange Bread By Charlotte Brownfield 2 cups pitted, chopped dates ½ cup boiling water 1 med. Orange 1/3 cup sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 Tbsp vegetable oil 1 cup white flour 1 cup whole-wheat flour, minus 2 Tbsp 1 tsp baking soda ¼ tsp salt ½ - 1 cup chopped walnuts Preheat oven 325°F. Pit, chop and cover dates with boiling water and set aside. Grate the rind of the orange. Peel off and discard the white membrane of the orange. Cut up pulp, remove seeds and blend in blender until nearly smooth. Combine dates with water, orange rind and orange pulp. Add sugar egg, vanilla and oil. Mix thoroughly. Sift together flours, baking soda and salt. Add to wet ingredients. Stir until moist. Fold in chopped walnuts. Fill 2 small (approximately 7.5 x 3.5 inch), lightly greased loaf pans about half full. Bake for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in middle of loaf comes out clean. 6
