Cranleigh Arts Events Listings April 2020 From the wondrous classical music from flautist, Anna Kondrashina and pianist Pavel Timofeyevsky to the electrifying hits of The Bob Dylan Story, there’s lots to enjoy at Cranleigh Arts this month! Doors open 45 mins before evening events, so why not head down early and pick up a drink before the show? While remaining faithful to the Marius Pe- tipa/Lev Ivanov text, Scarlett’s additional choreography and John Macfarlane’s magnificent designs breathe new life into what is ar- guably the best-known and most-loved classical ballet. The entire Company shines in this eternal tale of doomed love, a masterpiece filled with iconic moments. An intoxicating mix of spectacle and in- timate passion, the overall effect is irresistible. Cinema: Knives Out Thursday 2 April, 8pm £8.25, £7.25 Friends, £5.50 Under 25’s Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson and Michael Shannon, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end. Classical: Jigsaw Jam: Miriam Wakeling Friday 3 April, 7.30pm £15 – Via SeeTickets Throughout World Autism Awareness Month in April 2020, Jigsaw will be bringing people together through a series of music events to help create greater awareness and understanding of what a world living with autism can feel like. Miriam is a dynamic and versatile cellist currently performing in a variety of Classical and Contempo- rary ensembles. She plays regularly in a duo with concert pianist Christopher Guild who will also be performing. The duo have per- formed in both Edinburgh and London, making their debut at St James Piccadilly in July 2017.
Family Show: Eggs on Legs Saturday 4 April, 2pm £10 Adult, £8 Child, £32 Family For ages 3-8. Run time :46 mins Meet a family of zany Eggs on Legs, living in a lost pocket of the globe. One day the wind blows a huge egg into their tree and they are excited to play with it. But what happens if it hatches and can they protect it from the slithery snake? Garlic Theatre conjure a po- etic, Dr Seuss world full of eggcentric puppets and music to make you roll around with laughter. A cracking family show bursting with won- der and surprise – you will never look at an egg in the same way again. Event Cinema: Exhibition on Screen Easter in Art Wednesdsay 8 April, 7.30pm £13.50 The story of Christ’s death and resurrection has dominated western culture for the past 2000 years. It is perhaps the most significant his- torical event of all time, as recounted by the gospels but, equally, as depicted by the greatest artists in history. From the triumphant to the savage, the ethereal to the tactile, some of western civilization’s greatest artworks focus on this pivotal moment. This beautifully crafted film explores the Easter story as depicted in art, from the time of the early Christians to the present day. Film: Le Mans 66 (12A) Thursday 16 April, 8pm £8.25, £7.25 Friends, £5.50 Under 25’s American automotive designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and fearless British race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary vehicle for the Ford Motor Co. Together, they plan to compete against the race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966. Event Cinema: ROH Live: Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci Tuesday 21 April, 7pm £19.75, Under 25’s £15.50 Two opera classics are drawn together in this wonderfully observed re-creation of life. In a south Italian village as a travelling theatre visits and emotions erupt. The award-winning production by Dami- ano Michieletto presents vividly the fast-moving, shocking events brought about by secret love and uncontrollable jealousy. The mu- sic is full of Italianate melody in the great choruses that bring the villagers together in celebration and revelry, alongside the solo arias and tense confrontations. With thrilling singing and intense drama, ‘Cav and Pag’ distils into one wonderful night out, the en- during appeal of Italian opera in its most familiar form. Music: Bob Dylan: Don’t Look Back Friday 24 April, 8pm £16 Classics like Blowin’ In The Wind, The Times They Are A-Changin’, Mr Tambourine Man and many others are authentically recreated by Bill Lennon from UK hit theatre show The Bob Dylan Story as Dylan’s legendary 1965 UK concert tour – his last before going electric – is revisited. Complete with evocative imagery, this is a must solo show for ardent and casual Dylan fans alike. Community Event: Community Drum Circle Saturday 25 April, 2pm £5, £15 family of 4 We are delighted to welcome Ray Watters back for another fun- packed community drum circle. This fun, noisy, family friendly event is open to everyone and anyone. No musical experience is necessary, and all drums and percussion are provided. There are no wrong notes and no mistakes. It is all about taking part and having fun so come along, grab a drum, and have a go! Workshop: Pottery with Shelley Thursday 30 April – 4 June, 6.30-9pm £130 Try your hand at throwing on one of our wheels or develop your throwing technique. Explore other processes such as press mould- ing, coiling and slab building. These workshops are suitable for be- ginners and returning students. Materials provided.
