School Guidance for Fall 2021 • Both AAP and CDC now strongly recommending masks be worn indoors at schools, regardless of vaccination status • Yesterday’s CDC update (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019- ncov/community/schools-childcare/index.html ) • “CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place.” • CDPHE has not yet updated the guidelines released last week which strongly recommended mask be worn indoors at schools by unvaccinated individuals, at a minimum, as part of a layered viral mitigation approach • JCPH will release school guidelines this week • Will not be adopting the CDPHE recommendation that close contacts exposed in a school setting not be required to quarantine • Will be uniformly applying quarantine criteria across all sectors of Jeffco populations

Jeffco vaccine data to date • As of 7/14 CSPH modeling team estimated 57% of all in Metro Area are immune, 57% of all in the Central Mountains are immune, but only 30% of all in the Southeast are immune • Through the efforts of JCPH and the larger health care system, 73.5% of Jeffco residents 12+ have received at least one dose of vaccine (373,957 individuals) • 93.2% of Jeffco residents ages 70+ received at least one dose of the vaccine (59,619 individuals) • 79.9% of individuals 60-69 have received at least one dose of vaccine (62,464 individuals) • 70.3% of individuals 50-59 have received at least one dose of vaccine (58,129 individuals) • 72.6% of individuals 40-49 have received at least one dose of vaccine (53,830 individuals) • 76.0% of individuals 30-39 have received at least one dose of vaccine (62,270 individuals) • 67.1% of individuals 25-29 have received at least one dose of vaccine (26,238 individuals) • 58.7% of individuals 20-24 have received at least one dose of vaccine (19,991 individuals) • 60.3% of individuals 16-19 have received at least one dose of vaccine (16,591 individuals) • 54.0% of individuals 12-15 have received at least one dose of vaccine (14,825 individuals) • This displays the coordinated work of the health and medical systems of Jefferson County coming together to get vaccines out • Get more data at: www.jeffco.us/4007/Case-Summary Data from 7/12/2021

Concerns • Continued increase in B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant • Much more infectious • Infection rates among children and adolescent as high or higher than adults • Slightly decreased vaccine efficacy • Breakthrough case rate similar across different vaccine types • Persistent resistance to vaccination despite overwhelming evidence • Vaccines are safe and very effective • >96% of all deaths due to COVID-19 in Colorado Jan 1-June 30, 2021 were unvaccinated • >91% of all deaths due to COVID-19 in Colorado April 1-June 30, 2021 were unvaccinated • CDPH school guidance released • Guidance rather than regulation, strongly recommends vaccination for those eligible and masking for unvaccinated as part of a layered mitigation approach • American Academy of Pediatrics, CDC strongly recommend vaccination for all eligible and masking for all, regardless of vaccination status • Schools have indicated they will not follow the guidance unless required to do so via PHOs from state or county
Shift from regulation to education • JCPH continues to meet with JPS and other schools • JCPH K-12 School and Childcare Guidance being released this week • Aug 10th from 6-8p, JCPH will host an in person, outdoors Town Hall meeting with Jeffco school leaders • Share and answer questions about AAP, CDC, CDPHE, and JCPH School Guidance that strongly recommend vaccination for those eligible and mask requirements for those unvaccinated as part of a tiered viral mitigation plan • Discuss common myths, misperceptions, and falsehoods being circulated among parents and provide citations for evidence debunking those • Share recommended messaging to help parents understand truth about COVID-19, vaccines, masking, etc. • Aug 12th from 6-8p JCPH will host a telephone Town Hall for parents
JCPH vaccination work • Goal: ensure every resident has access to a COVID-19 vaccination in a timely, inclusive and safe way • Strategies: • Health and medical partners: clinics, pharmacies, etc • Community partner sites • Mobile vaccination sites • Walk up 1:1 efforts at businesses near mobile sites • Increased presence of State mobile clinics in Jeffco • “On demand” services – just call JCPH and we will come to you! • Parfet Bldg walk up, no appointments needed • Working with schools to prepare for vaccination efforts to be in place and ready for approval of vaccine for
