View past editions of Eye on Q 12 August 2021 COVID-19 funding support for Queensland tourism businesses On Tuesday the Queensland Government announced a $47.75 million Tourism and Hospitality Sector COVID-19 Lockdown Support Package to assist businesses impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns in Queensland and other states. The package is providing a range of rebates, fee and payroll tax relief measures to provide immediate support, including: Payroll tax deferral - eligible tourism and hospitality businesses that lodge payroll tax returns monthly can apply to defer paying their payroll tax liability due in August 2021 for six months. State land rent deferral - for eligible tourism operators for the period 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. Fee waiver and refunds for commercial tourism daily passenger fees - tourism businesses that operate in a national park, conservation park, recreation area or state forest, including whale watching operations, may have fees waived or refunded between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022.
Twelve-month fee waiver or refund of inbound tour operator fees - for fee renewals up until 30 June 2022. Liquor licensing fees waived - tourism and hospitality businesses can have their licensing fees for 2021–22 waived or refunded if they were licensed under the Liquor Act or Wine Industry Acts as at 30 June 2021. Large tourism and hospitality businesses statewide are now included in the 2021 COVID- 19 Business Support Grants of $5,000. COVID-19 Marine Tourism Rebate - reimbursement of the berthing fees for marine tourism vessel operators at privately-owned or privately-operated marinas in regional Queensland. FIND OUT MORE Link your ATDW with Google My Business, plus free ATDW health check The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) has partnered with Google, allowing tourism and events business to link their Google My Business (GMB) listing and ATDW profile.
The functionality allows automatic updates to your GMB listing when you make changes to your linked ATDW Profile. To find out more, operators should view the Google My Business Functionality walkthrough or listen to ATDW CEO Jan Hutton's introduction on this new feature and more in the first #askATDW video newsletter. In addition to this new functionality, ATDW is currently offering free 15-minute virtual health checks for tourism operators, including a one-on-one session with ATDW expert Courtney Miller. These sessions will teach operators how to optimise their online ATDW presence through simple changes such as refreshing content to improve consumer engagement with the aim of driving greater conversion to bookings. Book your ATDW health check here. COVID-19: what you need to know Hotspot and restrictions update The Cairns and Yarrabah and South East Queensland lockdowns have now lifted. Ongoing restrictions still apply within these local government areas, including capacity limits and mask wearing. Mask wearing requirements still apply to people who may have been in these areas and have since travelled elsewhere in the state (until 14 days have passed since they left the impacted area/s). Queensland has current contact tracing alerts and related public health advice for people who have been in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. New South Wales and Victoria remain declared COVID-19 hotspots and travellers who have been in these states cannot enter Queensland. Returning Queenslanders
are allowed to return but must quarantine in a hotel for 14 days on their return. Latest information. Queensland has reopened its border to South Australia to travellers arriving by flights only. More details will be provided soon on the Travelling in Queensland webpage. Support for businesses Small, medium and not-for-profit businesses across all industry sectors will be able to apply for a Queensland COVID-19 cleaning rebate of up to 80 per cent of the cost of professional cleaning (up to $10,000 ex GST) if their business is a confirmed COVID-19 exposure site. The Australian Department of Health has developed a COVID-19 vaccination business kit which offers a variety of resources that businesses can use to promote the importance of the COVID-19 vaccination program among their staff and guests. The Federal Domestic Aviation Network Support and Regional Airline Network Support Programs have been extended until the end of the year and the Tourism Aviation Network Support (half-price flights) initiative is being extended to 30 November 2021 for both sales and travel. The first round of recipients for the Federal Government’s Indigenous tourism grants have been announced, including several Queensland-based Indigenous-owned tourism businesses and community organisations. The installation of the Gold Coast’s newest $5 million underwater attraction - a purpose- built, eco-engineered diving reef - is underway, 2.5 kilometres off the city's Main Beach. The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has been voted runner-up in the latest International Association of Congress Centres survey. The news follows the
announcement on Monday that a mass vaccination hub has been established at the BCEC and operational since Wednesday.
