Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies TAFE Queensland North is the only training facility in Queensland to have a faculty dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies. Over 20% of students enrolled at TAFE are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Students can choose to study a variety of industries including: • Accounting • Education • Aged Care • Environmental Health • Business • Management • Conservation and • Primary Health Care Land Management • Sport and Recreation • Cultural Arts Students can choose to study on campus, in communities and in the workplace. Even if you don’t live near one of our campuses you can still enrol in our courses by accessing Away from Base (AFB) financial assistance which may help pay for your travel and accommodation to undertake an AFB course. (See page 41). All students have access to a team of dedicated Indigenous Student Support Officers to assist them with their training needs. Great Barrier Reef International Marine College All your maritime training needs in one location. One of the most comprehensively equipped training centres in the southern hemisphere, Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) comprises a full mission bridge simulator and navigation labs, fire fighting and damage control emergency response training simulator and a sea survival training immersion pool, all of which are located on the one campus. In addition, our training vessel provides innovative hands on training, taking the classroom to sea. Training courses on offer at GBRIMC lead to Australian and internationally recognised certificates required to service on and operate all types of vessels.
