A New Year's Message from Captain John A Happy New Year to all Members and Readers. New Year's Day 2020 was the beginning of a new decade and a new year and a fantastic turn out for the Captains Drive In. Many thanks for all your good wishes and a special thanks to the Male Voice Choir for the entertainment and to President Tom for his support on the day. It was a pleasure to also present Junior Boy's Captain, Niall Mc Dermott, with his Captain's jumper and I wish him the best of luck in his year. During 2020 over 100 men's competitions will be played - weekly events ; cup competitions : matchplays and the Winter League. This year's final of the Wehrly Bros. Winter League is scheduled for Sunday 29th March. A date for the diary!. The fixture dates for 2020 will be posted shortly on the Club website. The West of Ireland Championship is returning to the traditional Easter date -10th to 14th April 2020 and the Club's annual Open Week will be held on 1st to 9th August. As mentioned by me on New Year's Day, I am heartened to hear the many compliments about the high standard and presentation of our Course. Our course manager Mark Millar's regular blogs are a useful way of keeping up to date with progress on the Course and I encourage members to follow his links updates. I am looking forward to meeting you all throughout the year and welcoming new members and visitors to the club. Enjoy your Golf in 2020. John Mc Hugh Captain
Words from Lady Captain Edel • Being Lady Captain of this great Club is an honour and a privilege as we enter our 126 year. I am indeed well aware of the high standard that the office holds. I will endeavour to take the baton and continue to represent Co Sligo Golf Club and the ladies Club in the highest regard. I only hope that I can live up to expectations and continue to do the task well. • I have the assistance of a great ladies committee and different sub committees to ensure the smooth running of the ladies’ club. The continued support is much appreciated. • My vision for the year 2020 is to ensure an environment which supports all lady members to maximise the benefits of club membership. Facilities, social aspect and the game no matter what level they play to. • The splendour of our course speaks for itself. Last year after hosting the Irish Amateur Open and the Ladies Home Internationals the accolades received from the various organising committees, players and visitors were extremely complimentary to our Head Green Keeper Mark and his team, catering/bar staff and our General Manager David and his admin team. Members can all be proud. • I wish all our Ladies teams Junior and senior every success in 2020 and encourage members to support them. • I look forward to working with Management council and various other committees during the year and extend my thanks for their dedication and time to the club. • Finally, I thank you the members for your support and good wishes for my year. • I look forward to a good year both on the golf course and socially! • Wishing you and your families a very happy New Year. • Lady Captain Edel
Now that the Winter festivities are over and both our courses are receiving final touches it is time for us all to plan for a great year of golf. We are blessed to have in our club one of the best links available anywhere and we should appreciate our heritage. Have a great 2020 , may your swing be consistently good and may all your putts drop. I look forward to being of service to you. Tom Kenny President
As we look forward to 2020 and Winter gives way to Spring, our thoughts, naturally, turn to golf - to longer drives, crisper irons and straighter putts. Some of us look forward to reducing our handicaps or even getting into the winners enclosure for the first or even the twenty first time. I wish success to everyone but on the way be sure to take time to smell the flowers, to admire our wonderful panoramic scenery, and especially, to make lots of new friends. I wish you all a very Happy New Year. Una Howley, Lady President
