Updates from Consulate General of India, Toronto Bomb Blast in Indian Restaurant in Mississauga Two unidentified men bombed an Indian restaurant named Bombay Bhel in Mississauga on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at around 10:30 am with an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). The blast left 15 Indian people injured, ranging in age from 23 to 69 years. This explosion sent shockwaves through the community. The Consulate General of India in Toronto opened a helpline in view of the explosion and Consul General, Mr. Dinesh Bhatia along with Consulate Officials visited the Hospital in the middle of the night to check on the critically injured victims. Two senior Consulate officials also went to the blast site. All 15 injured people were discharged by the following day. According to Police, at this stage there is no evidence to term this incident as a terrorist attack or hate crime. Consular Camp in Brampton The Consulate General of India, Toronto organised a Consular Camp as outreach to the Indian and Indo-Canadian community on Consular matters on Saturday, 26th May 2018 from 1000-1200 hrs at Gurdwara Nanaksar, 64 Timberlane Drive, Brampton. Consul General, Mr. Dinesh Bhatia along with senior Consulate officials were available at the camp for consultation and advice on issues pertaining to various consular matters including Passport, Visa, OCI, PCC and attestation services faced by the Indian Diaspora. The Consulate is committed to making all efforts to resolve such issues, within the prescribed guidelines of the Government of India. Information Session for students of Hanson College Mr. D.P. Singh, Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare) gave a Welcome Address to over 100 new Indian students of Hanson College on May 22, 2018. He briefed them about various the consular services, which could be of help to the students in situations of distress. He also talked about the MADAD portal, an initiative for international students by the Ministry of External Affiars, Govt. of India. It enables online logging and tracking of grievances, and submission of course/contact details of students. Annual Ramadan Iftaar hosted by Islamic Society of Toronto Mr. D.P. Singh, Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare) attended the Annual Ramadan Iftaar hosted by the Islamic Society of Toronto on May 24, 2018. He addressed the people present and appreciated the initiative. He said that events like these allow people of the community to get together and keep the cultural values alive, especially among the children. He also added that such platforms also allow the less fortunate people to experience the celebrations. 108 Tree Memorial for Indian Army, which fought the World War I Mr. D.P. Singh, Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare) attended a 108 Tree plantation event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great World War I on May 26, 2018. Srishti Foundation in collaboration with City of London & Trees for Parkway led this effort to fund and plant 108 Trees, as a Memorial for these soldiers, off Veterans Memorial Parkway, near London International Airport, Canada.
Updates from India Visit of Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte to India Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mr. Mark Rutte paid an Official Visit to India on 24-25 May 2018. The two Leaders held wide ranging and constructive discussions on a wide variety of regional and international issues. They underlined the growing convergence between the two countries and agreed to deepen and strengthen the longstanding historical bonds of friendship between the two peoples spanning over four centuries. The two Leaders recognized that the ongoing transformation needs to be shaped by appropriate policies and institutions, guided by responsible leadership and rules based international order. KIP has now announced its 47th - 52nd editions with the partnering states of Tamil Nadu, Manipur & Mizoram, Karnataka, Gujarat, Bihar & Jharkhand and Daman & Diu and Maharashtra. Participants of 49th to 52th KIP will also have the opportunity to participate in PBD Convention, 2019, Kumbh Snan (The Holy Ganges Bath) and the Republic Day Parade in January 2019.
