My Personal Story DAY #6 Working Together, Not Apart For over 10 years, Pfizer has provided partner benefits to our colleagues in same-sex relationships. But for colleagues like Gordon Stewart, whose partner was not a US citizen, Pfizer went one step further. From 2003 to 2005, Gordon lived in New York, while his partner, Renato, lived in Brazil. Then, in 2005, Pfizer gave Gordon the opportunity to move to a position in the UK, where he was able to sponsor his partner. Five years later, Gordon accepted a global role with Pfizer and commuted between London and New York. During this time, he lobbied for immigration reform, and Pfizer supported him in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in June 2009. In its commitment to making a difference for Gordon, and across the country on this issue, the company joined other organizations in the amicus brief to the Supreme Court to support the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). After marrying in Canada, Gordon was finally able to sponsor Renato for a green card, which he received early in 2014. Offener Brief gegen „Bathroom bill“ • Anfang 2016 wurde die „North Carolina House Bill 2“, bekannt als HB2 oder „Bathroom Bill“ beschlossen • Das Gesetz verbietet Transgender – darunter Studenten in öffentlichen Schulen – die Benutzung öffentlicher Toiletten und anderer Einrichtungen, die mit ihrer Geschlechtsidentität übereinstimmen. • Viele Menschen in North Carolina, Bürgerrechtsanwälte und Unternehmen fordern den Gesetzgeber dazu auf, das Gesetz aufzuheben. • 68 Großunternehmen fordern die Aufhebung der Gesetzgebung in einem Brief an den Gouverneur Pat McCrory. Der Brief wurde von der Human Rights Campaign versendet, der größten und einflussreichsten LGBT-Interessenvertretung in den USA.
