Veterans Memorial Pool Campaign You can help make Veterans Memorial Pool unlike any other pool in La Crosse A project of La Crosse Neighborhoods, Inc.
Who We Are The Veterans Memorial Pool Campaign (VMPC) is a group of community members working together to champion the renovation of the historic La Crosse Municipal Pool as Veterans Memorial Pool, a 21st-century neighborhood aquatic center welcoming to all ages and abilities. Our Mission To support the renovation of Veterans Memorial Pool in order to promote health, lifesaving skills, neighborhood revitalization, and heritage as an investment in the future of our community. Our Focus The City of La Crosse has an approved pool design, allocated $3.138 million in funding, awarded a construction contract, and begun the first phase of pool construction with a scheduled completion date of June 2019. Concurrent with this effort, the VMPC is committed to raising $500,000 in funds for construction, equipment and amenities necessary to complete the project. We invite you to join us in our cause: the rebirth and re-imagining of Veterans Memorial Pool. The Once and Future Pool Located on the ancestral land of the Ho-Chunk people, the new Municipal Pool welcomed swimmers from all corners of La Crosse. Post WWII, the pool was part of a vibrant hub for home building and commerce, with the opening of the first shopping In 1938, La Crosse citizens partnered center in La Crosse on Campbell Road. with the Public Works Administration (PWA) to build and open our first community swimming pool. When an aging Memorial Pool closed in 2015, citizens again worked together to save this walkable, bikeable destination for swimmers and families from the surrounding neighborhoods. La Crosse's Modern Aquatic Center Renovation of La Crosse’s first public swimming pool and a Public Works Administration project that is dedicated to veterans. The project will update the historic bathhouse while converting the facility into a modern aquatic center to serve the greater community. The pool location has spectacular views of Grandad’s Bluff and is convenient for many La Crosse area families and residents of all ages and abilities. Updated Entrance Circle drive and signage at front entrance with additional parking and access for the disabled Veterans' memorial & flagpole: New bronze plaques mounted to pillars of the original marble pool vessel walls Improved Bathhouse with Highlighted Historic Features Updated entrance with original “Municipal Pool” monument sign, new architectural skylights and attractive check-in counter with concessions area Renovated locker rooms complete with updated plumbing, mechanical, and electrical as well as a unisex ADA bathroom Large Deck Area with Shaded Zones and Lawn Area New loungers, tables, shade structures, and a grassy picnic area Deck shower & nighttime deck lighting New Heated Pool Features New pool vessel with state-of-the-art heating and gutter filtration Underwater lighting, new pool ladders and lifeguard chairs ADA ramp and pool-lift along with a gentle stairway entrance into the pool Wading zone, 3 water gusher features and shallow area with an underwater bench 8 lap-lane swimming area with removable starting blocks Deep-water area with drop slide and diving board, suitable for programming Programs Designed for the Future Pool schedule, programs, special events and services for today’s modern recreation, instruction, training, and fitness needs serving all ages and abilities. Neighbors, visitors, special user groups, and partner organizations alike will benefit from this one-of-a-kind facility. A Variety of Programs in One Location Open lap swimming for up to 8 lanes and adjustable swim areas that appeal to a wider range of ages and interests A variety of classes for all levels, from infants to seniors, can be served in warm water with teaching-friendly access Recreational water sports, training, competition, fitness classes, and therapy Aquatic activities such as logrolling, paddle boarding, and walking/jogging Special fee-for-use options for swim teams, clubs, competitions, events, and parties--day and night Memorial Day celebration as well as special discounts and opportunities to serve Veterans and their families
How Can You Help? We invite you to join our cause with a donation to the VMPC. Corporate sponsors, fundraisers, and in-kind donations are welcome. Your contribution will be an investment in the health, safety, stability and heritage of La Crosse. The VMPC is a voluntary, charitable project of the La Crosse Neighborhoods, Inc. 501(c)(3) non-profit. Donations are tax deductible and go directly to the project.
