Our Facebook followers have grown from 3.7k to 4.2k and some Facebook posts even engaged an audi- ence of 3.5k - the ‘Seaweek Giveaways’ on FB were well received. Combining Education with Recreation Thanks to Foundation North for enabling a unique and engaging program to run with classes at four South Auckland Schools. At the start of Seaweek we brought marine education to their classrooms with an interactive presentation and trivia game then the classes joined us at Waitawa Regional Park for a full day of hands on learning! Students participated in Marine Metre Squared sur- vey (Mm2) on the rocky shore and had a culturally authentic experience pad- dling a waka with the Tamaki Herenga Waka Trust. Mm2 workshops were run across the country by the University of Otago's New Zealand Marine Studies Centre for teachers, their classes,& the public! Resources On our website we refreshed the links and shared these with teachers all over! Young Ocean Explorers came out with new episodes on their website and LEARNZ Sustainable Seas put up a new virtual field trip in association with NIWA & Sustainable Seas Science Challenge. Immersive Experiences A big thank you Experiencing Marine Reserves for running guided snorkel tours all over the country.
Opportunities For All Ages We engaged with all ages! Individual organizations across NZ held talks and lectures for a variety of audiences but in Wellington, Hutt City Libraries orga- nized about 20 Seaweek Storytime's & film screenings specifically NZ Sea Lion Trust organized for Allie Simpson from Woven Stories (right) to read her book ‘That's Not Your Hat’ at Dunedin City Library. ‘Make a Migratory Fish Puppet’ with Juliet Neill, Lyttelton CHCH Estuary Edge Clean-Up Conserva- Coastal clean up in St Kilda, tion Volunteers & Avon Heathcote Otago, organized by Our Seas Our Ihutai Estuary Trust, CHCH Future & Keep Dunedin Beautiful. We also rec- ognised the efforts of two inspiring young sisters who really care about doing their part to keep the beaches clean & live with less plastic. Lastly, Wentworth College Science Teacher Amy Fisher’s (right) class was awarded a trip to Kelly Tarlton’s for a great job monitoring the local shoreline with Mm2.
