Research Days in Education (RDE) 2020 14 & 15 April 2020 Research Unit: EASTCO (EA 4241) Venue: École Supérieure du Professorat et de l’Éducation (ESPE) The University of French Polynesia Tahiti PRESENTATION OF THE EVENT We have the honour to invite you to participate in the second "Research Days in Education" (RDE) conference, which will be held on 14 and 15 April 2020 at the École Supérieure du Professorat et de l’Éducation (ESPE)1. This second RDE event aims to bring together academic scholars, novice researchers (Master and PhD), teachers and other stakeholders in the Polynesian education system to reflect on current issues in education. The geographical distance of French Polynesia from national and international educational research centres complicates collaboration with other research scholars and specialists in education. In this particular context, it seems necessary to bring together not only local resources and institutions but also scholars from other research centres. Thus, the two other objectives of this second RDE conference are (a) to search for common educational issues and (b) to initiate research collaborations with researchers from other universities. CONFERENCE LANGUAGE The languages of the conference are French, English and Tahitian. However, proposals must be submitted either in English or French. CALL FOR CONTRIBUTION We invite you to submit proposals for oral presentations, posters, virtual presentations, and roundtable discussions on current issues in education through one of the following themes: Theme 1: Content and Language Integrated Learning (EMILE in French). CLIL will be the central theme of the RDE 2020 conference. - CLIL and context: Contexts and conditions of learning. - CLIL and the use of L1: Translanguaging, code switching, code-meshing etc. - CLIL and affect: Beliefs, attitudes and motivation of learners. 1 The School of Teacher Education both at primary and secondary education levels. 1
- CLIL and age: Issues related to age and CLIL learning. - CLIL and theoretical issues: Search for theoretical standpoints and compatible approaches. - CLIL and pedagogical issues: Teacher training, learner involvement, links between learning and cognition. - CLIL and learning outcomes: Experimental studies comparing CLIL with other practices and longitudinal case studies focusing on learning outcomes. We also accept proposals addressing current issues in education through one of the following themes: Theme 2: Contextualized instruction: Theoretical and practical approaches. Theme 3: Actual and reported practices: School and family involvement in educational practices. Theme 4: Innovation and education: New pedagogies and technologies in education. Theme 5: Plurilingual settings: Autochthonous, second and foreign language learning and teaching. Proposals that are not directly linked to the overarching conference themes will also be considered. ABOUT SUBMISSIONS ORAL PRESENTATIONS Oral presentations can be in the form of research papers, in-depth literature reviews, roundtable discussions or classroom experience-based oral contributions. POSTER PRESENTATIONS Posters, along with short and long abstracts, must be submitted electronically within the submission deadline. All posters will be displayed during the duration of the conference. VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS Virtual presentations will be scheduled as a regular conference presentation and viewed during the conference. We discourage submission of virtual presentations based solely on PowerPoint (we recommend filmed presentations). The duration of a virtual presentation is 10 minutes. The name of the file must be as follows: JRE2020_Video_ paper code. ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION The chair of the roundtable discussion chooses a conference theme and submits a proposal. S/He also chooses the participants of the discussion. The number of roundtable participants ranges from 6 to 8 people. The duration of a round table is 60 minutes: 45 minutes of discussion and 15 minutes of question and answer exchanges. 2
