A message from your Superintendent and Community Education Director. November 6 is Election Day, and there are many important issues on the ballot – including asking Saint Paul residents to consider an increase in funding for our schools. Our schools are located throughout the city and are used by our 37,000 students as well as thousands of community members like you for our Community Education programs. A recent community survey showed that residents overwhelmingly believe that strong public schools are directly linked to the well-being of our city and strong property values. If voters approve the request, the funding would help: ● Invest more in schools and student needs at all grade levels ● Implement the District’s Strategic Plan to increase achievement for all students ● Increase mental health and social-emotional learning support for students ● Create middle schools designed to meet the academic and developmental needs of this age group ● Limit additional budget cuts If voters do not approve the request, our school district will face continued multimillion-dollar budget cuts, resulting in cuts to staff and programs in all schools and at all grade levels. Learn more about this important vote at spps.org/referendum2018 so you can make an informed vote on November 6. Thank you for your interest in our schools and programs! Joe Gothard, Superintendent Lynn Gallandat, Director Saint Paul Public Schools Saint Paul Community Education Community Education Mission Statement Community Education seeks to improve the quality of life by providing lifelong learning opportunities for all members of the community. Lifelong learning is based on the belief that people are learners at every age and are entitled to pursue educational opportunities that are meaningful to them.
