A school for life. Timetabling Music lessons are usually given during class time on a rotating cycle. Lessons outside class time follow these priorities: 1. VCE/IB students. 2. If a student learns two instruments, one of these is scheduled out of class time. 3. Lesson times at Blairholme are dependent on room availability. 4. Parent requests for out of school times are then filled when possible. Please note that our program is a day program and staff are required to teach throughout the school day. Theory/Music Craft Lessons Theory & Music Craft lessons enhance students’ practical abilities, and are recommended for students studying AMEB Grade 4 and above. These lessons include music analysis, aural training and music literacy. Students wishing to study music in VCE/IB are encouraged to take Theory lessons as pathway to success in these years. Please note Theory examinations are a prerequisite for practical AMEB examinations at or above Grade 6 level. Getting the most out of your lessons Students are required to attend all the regularly scheduled lessons with their music, instrument, and other necessary equipment. Regular practice is important in ensuring progress. Your daughter’s teacher will advise on the appropriate frequency and duration of practice sessions. Families are encouraged to engage with their daughter’s music at home, observing practice or asking them to perform a piece for you every few weeks. Music students should have a dedicated practice space where possible, equipped with music stand and stationery as required. Assessment Music students receive semester reports alongside their academic subjects. In addition to this, there are a number of assessment opportunities available to students throughout the year, including internal and external (AMEB and other external providers). These will be arranged in consultation with the teacher and Head of Department. LAURISTON GIRLS’ SCHOOL CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES HANDBOOK | 17

Skipping is a fabulous sport that incorporates both freestyle (skills performed to music) and speed elements (timed events where the skipper's steps are counted). It is one of the best forms of improving fitness with 10 minutes of non-stop skipping equated to a 20 minute jog as well as improves flexibility, balance, coordination and builds muscle strength. The Skipz program provides qualified and experienced coaches who work with all Year and skill levels to provide a full cardio workout to their favourite music tracks with a variety of tricks and challenges that engages all ages and genders. This programme is running at Lauriston Girls' School on Thursday mornings from 7.30am for students in years 3-6. New Students welcomed. Please contact Isabelle on 0403 221 141 for further information. SCHOOLS CURRENTLY OFFERING THE PROGRAM qt*· "-•1,01,...,.;;\-l'r I S.tJatne'I Gol'll•,_s,..-,-.11,,,_..
