Please complete this form so we know whether you want to graduate in person or graduate in absentia. If you choose to graduate in person, completing the form enrols you in your graduation ceremony and allows you to hire and pay for your regalia and order your guest tickets. Regalia hire and ticketing information are contained within this guide. If you wish to graduate in absentia, completing the form lets us know that you wish to either collect your qualification from Ara’s Central Academic Records, City campus, Madras Street, Christchurch, or have it posted to you. CONCLUSION OF CEREMONY After the National Anthem you will be directed by the Marshals to cross the stage entering from your aisle side and leaving down the centre aisle and then out of the arena to wait for your guests to join you. TIPS FOR ON THE DAY 1. Graduation ceremonies are lengthy so please ensure you are well hydrated and have had something to eat prior, it’s easy to forget amid graduation pictures and getting ready. 2. Ensure your camera and phone batteries are charged for those graduation photos! We will have a portrait photographer stationed on the North Concourse on the day – this and graduation teddies are a separate business from Ara but the information tables will be set-up in the foyer area for you to make any purchases. 3. Go to the Bathroom: go before you line up! Chances are you’re going to be nervous, so try to go as often as you can before you have to be in your spot for the ceremony. 4. Cap/Gown/Honors Regalia. Make sure you don’t forget the most important part and ensure you arrive at the venue already dressed, no regalia bags are to be left back-of-house. 5. Chewing gum. This might seem odd, but it’s especially helpful if you’re way down the list as far as the order for crossing the stage. If you get strong, minty gum, it will help keep you awake and the peppermint will help with nerves. 6. If you feel ill once you are inside and seated do not be self-conscious and remain where you are. Feel free to leave the building for fresh air and seek out one of our Ara marshals who can assist with chaperoning you outside or seeking medical aid. SPECIAL NEEDS If you or any of your guests have special mobility or access needs, please let us know by contacting us on (03) 940 7534 or events@ara.ac.nz after 1 March, 2021. If you or any of your guests communicate by NZ Sign Language, we will have an interpreter at the ceremony. Page 9 of 10
