A HOME FOR ALL SEASONS Originally a farm cottage, the remote and tranquil fields and waterways surrounding it are no longer farming land. Over the past 18 years it has been transformed into Chimney Meadows, one of Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust’s largest nature reserves and a refuge for wading birds and wildfowl, so the only sound is of the birds calling to each other and the buzz of insects. In the spring, the wetlands are carpeted with yellow cowslips and, in the summer, fields once planted with wheat and barley are now gently swaying wildflower meadows. In the winter, the wildfowl arrive and huge murmurations of starlings swoop overhead. What a haven this place is, and you can live right here in the midst of it. 04–05

The current owners have their dining table at the far end of the family room, next to the two glass corner walls formed by the sliding doors. In the summer these can be drawn back, with the effect of merging indoors with outdoors – just imagine what wonderful summertime gatherings you can enjoy. Above this is a double-height space with an impressive feature ceiling light, overlooked by the glass-panelled landing. A fence delineates the main garden area and, beyond this, there is a sizeable paddock with two sheds and a greenhouse. The plot has plenty of potential, perhaps for the construction of a garage or for horse stabling. 4, CHIMNEY FARM COTTAGES 18–19
