Community Healthcare West MAYO RECOVERY COLLEGE Spring Summer Prospectus 2020 www.recoverycollegewest.ie MRC VISION The purpose of the Mayo Recovery College is to progress a culture of recovery, to improve quality of life and promote social inclusion by empowering people with mental health challenges, their families, supporters and the community through co-produced education and learning together. MRC is one of a network of HSE recovery colleges in Community Healthcare West serving the Mayo Galway Roscommon region. MISSION Our aim is to foster HOPE as the foundation for ongoing recovery and to sustain the belief that people can recover from mental health challenges. We strive to enhance self-CONTROL with educational experiences that encourage confidence to negotiate and make choices with increased personal responsibility. Finally we hope that participation in the college will yield new personal OPPORTUNITIES.

Frequently Asked Questions Who is it for? The college is community facing and based at GMIT Castlebar. It is available to any individual over 18 years. This includes people with mental health challenges, family members/friends/supporters, health professionals and members of the community with an interest in mental health. There are no entry requirements or exams and students are free to choose the modules that interest them. What do we do? We offer adult education experiences that seek to maintain, promote and protect mental health and support people in a meaningful way with their personal recovery.. What’s different? We combine the knowledge wisdom and insight of both lived experience and professional experience to support new learning and awareness about recovery and mental health. This is achieved through discussion and exchanges of ideas and personal experiences in every module. What do you need to do? Registration fee is €5 per semester.
