ASSEMBLY BILL 204
Assembly Bill 204 provides that marriage licenses and
certificates of marriage may include the name to be used
by each spouse after the marriage.
AB204 – Name Options
   First name shown on the applicant’s
    identification will remain the same
   At the time of license issuance, applicant may
    change his or her middle and/or last names

Middle name options:
  • Current last name of the either applicant
  • Last name of either applicant given at birth
  • Hyphenated combination of the current middle or current last
    name of either applicant
  • Hyphenated combination of the current middle and current last
    name given at birth of either applicant
Last name options:
  • Current last name of either applicant
  • Last name of either applicant given at birth
  • Hyphenated combination of the potential last names

Paper Application
  • LIMITED use
   (foreign languages, branch offices, emergencies, etc.)
  • Marriage Bureau will not accept prior versions of
    paper applications
AB204 – Implementation Timeline
   November/December 2017 – testing and setup
   New forms will be released to chapels and Officiants
    when finalized
   Forms will also be available online with specifications
   Anticipated implementation on January 1, 2018
AB365 – 5-Year Renewal
Effective January 1, 2018, Officiant certification will
require renewal every five years:
 Notification with renewal instructions will be sent six
  months prior to expiration
 Renewal Fee = Application Fee (currently $25)
 NO Background check
 Failure to renew within 90 days will require new
  application plus all applicable fees

    Program launch January 2018
    Full program dependent upon funding
    ID number will differ from number on Certificate of
     Permission to Perform Marriages
    Records will be linked by Officiant’s ID number
    Increased accuracy and efficiency of filing
AB365–Officiant Contact Information
 NRS 122.064(7) clerk may revoke [an officiant] who fails to notify the
 county clerk of his or her mailing address within 30 days after the
 change.

    CURRENT contact information is essential
    Primary method of communication will be e-mail
    Returned mail will result in “UNKNOWN” status on statewide list (not
     found using Officiant search)
      ◦ Notify religious organization
          ◦ 60-days revoke
    Required by law
    Update form available at check-in table or online
Handbillers
   County Marshal has increased their presence
     • May issue citations
     • Submit a formal complaint for abuses
   Reduced customer complaints
   Remind handbillers of the rules and to conduct
    themselves as professionally as possible

   If no space has been designated for your chapel, see a
    supervisor – don’t improvise

    chapels

     ◦ 3rd: $1500
   Effective immediately
   Contest fine through hearing master or court
