A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO Dear Friends, Kavod has been fortunate enough to expand our programs and services over the past decade. As you may know, we have added intergenerational offerings, enhanced our resident outdoor gardens, developed our Kavod on the Road and L’Chaim2Life outreach programs, updated our main kitchen and dining room, established a lending library of tablets for our residents, and purchased a new van. We even created our own grocery store (also known as, the food and hygiene pantry) during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The list truly goes on. These wonderful amenities have only been made possible with the financial resources and support of the broader community. As we celebrate our 50th Michael Klein anniversary, I wanted to highlight four foundations that made an especially notable impact in the past few years. • Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation provided the seed money to build our health and wellness center that now has their name. The center has allowed us to offer an entire floor of on-site medical, dental, occupational/physical therapy and other ancillary health services. Our residents can now access these services without having to leave our building. • The Daniels Fund has supported a variety of health and wellness initiatives both at Kavod and for older adults we reach out to in the community. They also generously contributed to our pandemic-related support programs. • Jay and Rose Phillips Foundation has helped fund a wide range of resident health and wellness programs, including critical COVID-19 relief. • Rose Community Foundation rounds out our top four. They have helped fund new software for accounting and assisted living; program evaluation and data collection; and crucial therapy equipment, among other initiatives. On the next page is a photo of a plaque we have in our main lobby displaying all the foundations who have contributed $10,000 or more. We so appreciate the role these and other foundations have had in allowing us to provide more than just the basic services most HUD facilities are able to provide. We wish to encourage all community members to be part of this circle of support. We have had residents and their families make donations as well as several staff and all of our Board members. With these gifts, we will maintain the services we currently have and provide even more in coming years. We are celebrating 50 years of excellence and have plans to continue this legacy for another 50, if not more. Join our foundations and other community members who have made Kavod the special place it is. With your support, Kavod will remain a beacon of award-winning housing and services for your loved ones and older community members who deserve all we can offer. THE EARLY YEARS 50th Anniversary Leadership Profile with Steven Siegel Kavod is grateful to the founders and leaders who helped shape the organization over the last 50 years. We asked one of our past Board leaders, Steven Siegel, to share some reflections with us. He served as Kavod’s Board president from 1992– 1994. Steven has a special connection to Kavod (which he refers to as “Allied” due to our former name of Allied Jewish Apartments). “When my mother retired, we invited her to move to Colorado to be closer to us,” he reflected. “At the time, Allied was a perfect place to tour. What I didn’t know is that not only would it be the site where my mother would live, it would be the place I would fall in love with.” He eventually got more involved with the organization, joining the board and then serving a term as president and then our Housing & Services Board as the chair. “That’s the beauty of Kavod,” he says. “We’ve stopped to take a look at what our residents need. Kavod is not here for a real estate investment, for board members to feel important, or because it’s cool to be in Cherry Creek. Kavod is here because it embraces the individuals who live there and does everything it can to meet those needs.” Steven’s mother lived at Kavod from age 72 until her passing at 91. “I can tell you that those years were her best years, when she lived at Allied,” he says. “ As president, Steven continued to forward and strengthen Kavod’s mission to provide housing and support services to all individuals under its roof, no matter their background or country of origin. Because of his efforts, as with the other leaders before and after him, Kavod exists as the thriving organization I discovered that not only would it is today. Kavod be the site where my “Kavod has built this environment where yes, it’s mother would live, it would be important for our residents but frankly, it should be cloned all across the city,” Steven shares. “All people the place I would fall in love with. in their twilight years should be able to have the quality of life – and beauty in life – that is offered to residents at Kavod.” 3

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR Looking Ahead to Kavod’s Next 50 Years As we celebrate Kavod Senior Life’s 50th anniversary, we have the opportunity to reflect upon its accomplishments over the years. It is truly dazzling to see what happens when an organization is relentless in supporting older individuals with positive aging. One wonders what the next 50 years will bring and what new adventures await us. The best way to ensure Kavod’s future as it moves into its next 50 years is by joining our Legacy Society with a charitable donation of any amount, designated through a will or living trust. The gift does not cost you anything right now. A legacy gift is a future gift to Kavod Senior Life that will sustain its services and will Gaile Weisbly Waldinger live on as your legacy.
