From The Program Co-Directors We are excited to present to you this year’s spring Far East Council Cub camp: Operation Enigma! Join other agents from throughout Asia as we team up virtually to crack codes, uncover secrets, overcome collaborative challenges, find new allies, and stretch out training to the limit! Whether you are a family of veteran scouters or are just getting introduced to the concept of scouting, our family camp program is designed to help families enjoy the themes of Scouting as they participate in games, adventures, skills, and crafts. This camp will provide youth with an exciting day of adventure and fun. We hope you have a wonderful time! If at any time we can help improve your experience, we will be eager to talk with you. Adventures and Awards While the focus of this camp is family fun and Registration learning, there may be opportunities to complete various Cub Scout achievements. The various instructors at camp are aware of these achievements and can make sure you satisfy the requirements. Class A uniforms are recommended. Priority for all events will go to registered Scouts first, but every reasonable attempt will be made Activities to include siblings and friends. Learn how secret messages were hidden in Patrol Planning plain sight throughout history. Whether it was secret plans contained in nature drawings by Baden-Powell’s original scouts or George Washington concealing messages in invisible ink, we will cover it all! We will create our own secret messages using our own invisible ink. Tabletop Gaming Puzzle Quest Each patrol will be given the opportunity to choose a patrol mascot, design a patrol flag, and create a patrol yell. Patrols will be briefed individually on what to expect for the day. Morse Code Bracelet Each patrol will embark upon an epic tabletop gaming quest brought to you by the scouts of Troop 5: Masters of Disasters: The Cubs Awaken! Troop 5 developed this exciting game Participants will be learning about Morse code for the sole purpose of this camp! Collaborate and its important role in sending important with your patrol to solve a variety of messages throughout history. Each participant camping-related puzzles and quests on a lifelike will have a chance to be exposed to the unique tabletop fantasy world. Beware if you roll a 1! alphabet. Using this alphabet, we will create beaded necklaces with their name in Morse Code Breaking code. Secret Messages 3
Patrols will use their decoder rings to decipher various messages as they learn to solve and I Spy! send secret messages. We will also learn about various cyphers and alphabets that have been used to send secret messages throughout history. Rebus Club Cubs will have their observation skills tested to the limit! We will play I Spy. Cubs will also need to use their powers of perception to identify what has gone missing! A rebus puzzle combines the use of illustrated Final Challenge pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases. We will work out way through some of these and even create our own. Older participants will also use their skills to solve a large logic puzzle. Tangrams Using the skills they learned throughout the day, patrols will find out if they have what it takes to win in a battle of code-breaking wits! Don’t crack open the envelope marked “Top Secret” until you are ready for what is inside! Campfire Program The tangram is a puzzle made up of seven shapes that can be arranged to form many different designs. These puzzles originated in China over 200 years ago, but they continue to stump even the smartest minds today. We will see if we are up to the challenge of getting our “tans” to form various shapes! The entire camp will gather for a lighthearted campfire program to round out the day. Be sure to refrain from eating your s’mores kit until the campfire is ready! 4
